Bidrage med feedbackWe visited in May 2019 for lunch, have heard a lot about the semaphore. the set menus were not available as it was the weekend. they sit in an aluminum conservatory. the prospects are really good and the service is in order. the responsible man speaks well English. so good to eat and great. a visit is worthwhile on the way restaurant.
Here on the hotel owner bill. my wife and I and three others were the only diners in this old lighthouse at the top of a cliff with views over guernsey and jersey! stunning at a sunny evening. the food was fresh... prepared and the restaurant specializes in seafood. we were not disappointed, and both the quality and the prices were excellent. they need to book especially in high season. the maitre de speaks English too!
Best sea bass ever. service is relaxed, but efficient, friendly and informative. that look out on the sea, the pee and the beaches are beautiful. all we have ordered was delicious and compared to other regions frankreichs the prices were reasonable.
Our final lunch or dinner in France before catching the ferry back to Ireland is a special occasion and we are generally pretty successful at finding somewhere memorable. Last year, we booked a table for Saturday lunch on our way to Cherbourg. However the journey...from Fecamp was grim it was the start of the French holiday season and the autoroutes were very busy and the jams at the toll stations were horrendous, particularly at Le Pont de Normandie. We had to ring and cancel our booking and it was a question if we were going to make it to Cherbourg in time to catch our ferry to Rosslare we did and all was well. We were determined to make it this year it was a Sunday in September after the holiday season had ended and there were no autoroutes or tolls on the journey from Bagnoles de l'Orne. We arrived at 12h30 and the restaurant was starting to fill with happy French families out for a Sunday lunch treat. The weather was lovely and we received a warm welcome from the owner and his son. We ordered a bottle of Normandy cider delicious and a bottle of Badoit and some crusty bread and pastry chunks with a fabulous dip were brought as an appetiser. The choice was easy we went for the grilled lobster, although the menu had a range of fish, a seafood platter and even beef for those who wanted meat au bord de la mer. We were escorted to the kitchen area of the restaurant to inspect the lobsters taken from the tank and then, as the weather was so great, we went outside to soak up the views they were amazing and we could clearly see Alderney and then, further away, Sark, Guernsey and finally Jersey. A Brittany Ferries boat on passage from St Malo to Poole was the only thing that broke the flat calm of the ocean. The lobsters were superb grilled to perfection, dressed with unctuous butter, and accompanied by a small tower of tasty vegetables. We decided that one course was enough and we followed this with excellent coffee before heading to Cherbourg 11 miles but in another world away. A truly superb final lunch in a magical place run by a very charming family something that the French do exceptionally well. We look forward to returning again
Le Semaphore is situated at the top of the Cap de Flamanville, looking out towards Jersey. Guernsey and Sark giving a fantastic view of the sunset when we there this week. A rather insolent waiter who ruled unchecked by the owner completely ruined what...would have been a memorable evening. The oysters were excellent as was the St Pierre fish, but quite expensive at €35pp including a supplement for the fish. We won't be back until reports that there is new management. There are better places nearby for instance the Phare just around the coast at Dielette.
