Bidrage med feedbackBonjour! Avez-vous été dans ce restaurant français?I would like to say I speak French, but that was all through Google translate! This absolute gorgeous French gem will have you feeling like you have been transported to France with their traditional French decor and French staff. The food is absolutely incredible. I’m not an expert of French cuisine but I sure have high standards after eating here. The baked Camembert was super creamy and full of flavour. Then we had the Steak Tartare starter, along with Salmon Rillettes. Our mains were beautiful. Gnocchi in butter and truffle sauce with burnt sage and a gorgeous fish of the day. Would highly recommend booking a table for dinner or lunch for a great way to catch up with friends/family or for celebrations!
So glad that Sousou is back and was so excited to dine here at its new location on Gertrude. I’ve always loved and appreciated the French vintage decor of this place with the soft orange glow from the lamps, the dark wooden panelling and leather seats, and awesome bar. <br/ <br/ We ordered to share the Charcuterie board, French onion soup and Steak Frites and it was all delicious. The wait staff are so friendly and warm and we truly appreciated the advice of the gentleman waiter on our dishes when we over ordered and he informed us to reconsider due to sizing. Best advice ever as we were already feeling stuffed half way through our second dish and we hadn’t even signalled for the steak to come out yet! But it was still a wonderful and cosy afternoon as they don’t close between lunch and dinner, so it really did feel like a lovely long lunch in France. Can’t wait to be back for more!
Will come back for:<br/ Charcuterie Board<br/ Steak Tartare<br/ Confit Duck<br/ Cauliflower Gratine<br/ <br/ We are so glad that Madame Sousou is back, but in a slightly different form in Fitzroy. It was one of our favourite French eatery, and some of our favourite dishes (like the steak tartare) made it back! We loved the charcuterie board (combo of terrine, parfait, pickles, rillettes and breads), a great way to kick off the meal. The steak tartare was fresh, deliciously flavoursome, and moorish. The confit duck was falling off the bone and combined well with the reduced cherries. The gratine is molten lava hot, but irresistible. The steak and frites and the fresh onion soup (this was a little too thick) was good but not our favourites. Service was good as always. Will definitely make it back for more.
This gorgeous French cafe has moved over from Brunswick Street and suddenly that corner spot on Napier and Gertrude feels perfect. Its beautiful decor will be recognised by former customers as many elements have been brought over from Madame Sousou. I dashed over to try something I’d seen on Instagram. My dish was a sweet brioche style base, loaded with all different types of olives. Underneath was a layer of sweet caramelised onion. A tiny tin of anchovies are served on the side. I honestly didn’t think I would finish the anchovies but I managed to keep adding them to every single, sweet, salty mouthful until the tin lay bare! OMG Sweet delicious indulgent heaven! I love this place so much. I looked out from my window table onto Gertrude Street and I felt transported to somewhere like Bedford Ave Williamsburg. Great music indoors, classic French chairs, moustached friendly waiter and a chat with Ms Instagram made for a charming interlude in my day. Love! And welcome back, we’ve missed you!
Tonight we came here straight from my brother’s master’s graduation. <br/ <br/ This intimate venue was the perfect place to celebrate his achievements.<br/ <br/ We started with a plater of Jamon and a serve of the anchovies on toast. The jamon was very tasty and cut like melted butter. <br/ <br/ For mains we ordered the roasted 1/2 a chicken. It was extremely flavorsome, succulent and very well cooked. An extremely generous serve.<br/ <br/ We also ordered the Beef bourgignonne with onion fondant and mashed potato, it had a delicious beautiful rich flavor, it was not a stew, more like a slow cooked meat with gravy. <br/ <br/ We also had the Trout with beurre noisette, it was absolutely delicious, melt in your mouth and was served with green beans and almonds, a really lovely combination. <br/ <br/ The wine list was simple but adequate. <br/ <br/ KD
