Alaska Grill - Fairbanks

Finding the university was a breeze, and the campus was well-kept with clear signs pointing to the bookstore. Parking was also easy, probably because it was June and many students had left for the summer. Driving around the campus on my way back to Denali was a real pleasure—it's not every day that you see rock climbing walls and wildlife at a college in Western New York! I hope to return to Fairbanks someday, and I’ll definitely make sure to stop by the university while I'm there!

We stopped by the Temperature sign, a famous photo spot during winter known as Winter Highlights. If you’re in Fairbanks with some free time and a way to get around, this is the ideal place to take some memorable pictures. When we went, the temperature was 29°F (around -1.6°C). In Fairbanks, these are the experiences that leave a lasting impression!

When it comes to food options, it really varies depending on where you go. I visited a café in the science building that had a special—either a sandwich or spaghetti, both of which I enjoyed. The campus also has a museum that I visited once; I was pleasantly surprised by it, particularly the behind-the-scenes area, even though I’m not typically a huge museum fan. I stayed in one of the larger dorms at the front of the campus. It was decent, but I would have liked a bit more privacy since I had a roommate. The kitchen could have been cleaner, and we had to wash the dishes before using them to cook. On the plus side, the residents were friendly, and I made some good friends. I worked in the ARSC building, which I found enjoyable, although it was about half a mile away, making it a bit of a hike. On days when I felt lazy, I would take the shuttle, but I usually found that walking was quicker. The bus system was manageable, but we also had bicycles, which we used to ride to Fred Meyer. There was a Sam's Club nearby as well, so I took the bus with my luggage to stock up on supplies.

The food is decent, but the real problem is the service. The chef always appears to be in a bad mood whenever I go there. If you miss your name being called or if you order through the app but aren't able to pick it up immediately, he just becomes more uptight.

The food is outstanding, but the prices might be a bit high for college students who are managing a limited budget.
