Bidrage med feedbackIn the middle of the street. I loved coming here when I lived in California, so I had to stop there today while I was in town and it wasn't like I remembered. The atmosphere was, as I remembered, dirty unsurpassed chairs are placed at tables with sticky plastic feeling tablecloths. The place is in desperate need of an upgrade. I noticed an employee who cleaned the dining room all the time when I was there, what was encouraged, but probably should happen after hours. The food wasn't as good as I remember. I have the Large Chicken Sandwich and a Spokesman's Cream Soda (which is up to Wisconsin). The chicken was tasteful but dry. The bread on which it was served was garlic bread and tasted great, but was something on the soggy side. I like the idea of a spice bar instead of coming on the sandwich as I prefer more sauce and less vegetables than I usually get in restaurants. The overall sandwich was pretty good, but not worth the price, as it was not as generously proportional as I expected. I think it was a little over price for what it is, but I would still recommend it to someone who wants a quick bite of barbeque that just crosses Eureka. 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Great BBQ. Beef ribs, tri tip sandwich... UMMMMMM!!!
Try the Hamburgers. Porters has devoted BarBQue fans, but I go there for the hamburgers. The bun and meat are served at the table (or in the to go bag and then you dress the burger as you wish from a salad bar. The fixin 's are nothing to write home about, but the meat patty, cooked as you like it, is so delicious it makes everthing else seem just dandy too. If I 'm dirty and tired from a day of physical work, a Porter 's Hamburger is dinner. The ambience works just fine for someone in dirty workclothes. I never think I am going to eat the whole thing but always do, unless I split a burger with a hungry helper, and split a potato salad too, which is like home-made. I appreciate that at the fixin 's bar, there are also packetts of hand disinfectant offered too. Once you dress the burger, you 're likely to eat it bare-handed. If you get the burger to go, there is barbeque sauce in the bag (and styrofoam that you can ask to have substituted with foil . Their sauce then gets used when I make baked beans at home. mmm I like their tri-tip sandwich just fine, but it 's their hamburger I 'm hooked on. BTW, the crew in Arcata interprets medium rare as much less cooked than the Eureka crew. Ajust accordingly. (Arcata store is on Samoa Ave just west of Hwy 101. Onramp is close by.
OK BBQ. This is a tough one. I love BBQ nearly as much as I love my wife, so you know I have eaten a bit of the stuff. Porter Street, in my opinion, is pretty much your basic, middle-of-the-road BBQ place. Meats are a bit firm and dry for my BBQ tastes, but still eminently edible. Sauce is kicky and works well with their choice of smoking woods, but it's nothing much to write home about. Their menu is sparse, but everything on it is authentic and mostly hand-made and prices are comparable to any other BBQ place out there.
This is the best BBQ you will find in Humboldt county! They do need to update the prices on urbanspoon but it's still well worth the price.
