Bidrage med feedbackIt is very close to my place just 2 minutes to foot. they can obtain large salt crystals there during the dry period. in the rainy season it is not very accessible due to grasses.
It's so natural. but one does not reach without permission the sea, men are forbidden to take water from the sea. it tastes salty
It's a good place to visit n see one of nature's wonder. Not to accessible though
Well I will say Uburu salt lake is a static waterlike area which is process by women alone. it has something to do with the culture of the land and has a strong spiritual backings as believed by the people of the community. it will be a nice place to be if government will develop there as a tourist center.
SALT OF THE NATION UBURU SALT LAKE The salt lake has been of great economic impoterant to NDI-UBURU and the easthern part of Nigeria. UBURU woman used the production of the salt to make alot of money to train and feed their respective Family's . UBURU salt was the main stay of UBURU economy,every UBURU woman has a portion either around the lake called MMAHI or her compound and it attract traders from all walks of life to come to UBURU to buy the salt produced by UBURU woman locally to produce ionized salt. The UBURU woman local salt factory popularly know as ONUEBE is still functional till date. The AGBIRIGBA UNU UBURU. During the Nigeria,biafria civil war cannot be over emphasized .The Easterner Nigeria was under heavy pressure during the war due to the returness from Nigeria, must of whom has turned to refugees in their own land. Hunger was every where because of No food. Nigeria government denied supply of food,salt and other necessities of life to the Eastern Nigeria. Thousands of people mostly children suffered ANS died of malnutrition Kwashiokor diseaaea as a result of lack of food and salt. The UBURU salt provide a means of surviving and escape for Easthern Nigeria economically and nutritionally. The ancient great Hunter Legendary Chukwu Oke and Chima the Discoverer and Explorer of the Salt lake Spring Situated presently, almost at the centre of the town(uburu). The salt lake was discovered by two men, but the processing are carried out by woman only till date. In the beginning,woman in their menstrual period were not allowed to enter the lake. To ensure compliance, woman were made to enter the lake in their nude only. But with the passage of time and the advent of civilization the practice was stopped.
