Bidrage med feedbackNot our usual Chinese but due to time constraints decided to grab some take away here. Most disappointing. Just very very ordinary. There are better places to eat in Engadine. I wish it had been different.
We revisited Ho Ho Cantonese to give it antother try as it is convenient to Club Engadine(RSL). We tried the Combination Hor Fun (like Combination Chow Mein with thick noodles). Also had mixed entree and a small fried rice. The food was good and the waiter Gordon is very friendly and helpful.
When new owners first took over this restaurant we were very impressed. The fried rice was deliciously jewelled with lapchong and other authentic ingredients, a lot of the gimmicky Aussie-nese items were removed from the menu and the service was so much warmer than before. Many months later and the quality of the food (lacklustre fried rice included) and service (being pestered to pay cash vs card and having to discriminate the bill as a matter of course) has greatly diminished plus we are spending on average $20 more per order. That being said, this is still our preferred Chinese food joint in Engadine.
I have been a very loyal customer of Ho Ho since it opened many years ago. The original owner Geoff ran an amazing restauraunts and we dined here weekly, take away or eat in. Geoff sold his business to Ricky and the food and service was still wonderful. It's been sold again and I'm very sorry to say they have lost my business. The food is dreadful...bland, dry...very ordinary. It's now open for lunches. It's also a BYO.I'm not writing this review flippantly...I have been back 3 times hoping things would improve...The waiter Gordon is lovely...so is the new owner...but gee now the place is empty. It's a shame as its next to the RSL which was very convenient for dinner. Must congratulate the staff though...very pleasant but now we walk to another restaurant which offers much nicer food.
Used to be my favourite Chinese restaurant, streets ahead of the other restaurants in Engadine. But not any more. Since it changed hands the food is average at best. My wife used to like their Chicken Chow Mein, so did I but what they served up was the most bland food I had tasted and the fried rice was also tasteless.I tried it just before Christmas and have asked friends what their recent experiences were like since then. The feedback is the same, not as good as it used to be. Not game to go back. They have slipped behind the other Chinese restaurant in Engadine, that's for sure
