Steak 'n Shake - Elgin

The food was good and prepared quickly, but the cleanliness of this place is concerning. It looks like it hasn’t been cleaned since it opened, with layers of greasy fingerprints on every surface, dead bugs on the windowsill, and the touchscreens were quite dirty. The floors, which should be white, are gray and black in many areas, especially in the women's bathroom. The floor was so sticky that my flip-flop got stuck to it. The bathroom floor is uncomfortably sticky and repulsive. I wish I had noticed all of this before I ordered and paid for our food. I overheard who I suspect was the manager several times urging the staff to hurry and reminding them that they were falling behind, but I didn't see him offering any help. Although the food was good, I will never return to this place. I can only hope their hygiene practices in the kitchen are better than what I observed in the dining and bathroom areas, as I certainly don’t want to risk getting foodborne illness.

The experience is not so good when ordering on a screen. it seems to be less personal. we ate outside because there was so much smoke in the area of the grills. that was delicious. I go back to steak and shake, but I will probably not visit this place because of the smoke again. the personal was nice, but overall it seems as if it could be a bit attentiveness.

They guided us on how to use the kiosk. I dined alone and enjoyed a delicious grilled cheese sandwich, a burger, and fries. The service was great!

Google cards said they were open, and there was at least one car there, but still nobody contacted us while we waited for every sign of life. two stars since it was early in the morning and it was perhaps too early

What can I say.. Just average service from an average fast food joint.Got a milkshake and it tasted ok
