El Huemul y Maffia - El Chaltén

To move us south to El Chalten, we heard from people about the tiny restaurant called Maffia, which brought them back a night (if they could get a table). It wasn't exploitation. Like a small Hobbit house from local tribes and branches, the creative menu, wine list and fabulous staff was for us the star dining experience in the city. We booked a second evening a course in our first meal.

Excellent Italian meal. You need a reservation (can be made on the same day in the early afternoon when I was in March). Great options. Had a nice evening with a new friend I met on the way. Good wine selection!

And delight in fantastic Italian food in the middle of nothing. Trout sorrentini is a must, like pumpkin ravioli. Don't miss the Tiramisu.

We were able to taste some of the popular restaurants in the picturesque town of El Chalten. Maffia Trattoria was by far our favorite. The owner was welcoming and the food was delicious. The restaurant was very busy and the owner seats at a common table. We had a great time with the other couple we sat next door.

Ate here three times during our week in El Chalten. My wife isn't usually a fan of pasta but for some reason she loved the food here maybe because it was homemade; the place is always busy and you generally need to make a reservation. Ordering is different to most Italian places we've visited you choose the type of pasta and then choose the sauce e.g. my favourite was spinach ravioli with mushroom sauce. Perhaps the best part of the meal was the fresh homemade bread! The reason I didn't give this place 5* was because, as a party of two, even though you make a reservation there's no guarantee of a separate table and twice we were put on a table for four and told that we might have to share.
