Bidrage med feedbackFrom the two other sister restaurants (Corso 32, Bar Bricco,) Uccellino has be my favourite for a variety of reason including: the laid back atmosphere,
Wow what a meal! When I take my lady out for date night we usually order 3-5 different dishes so that we can try a larger cross section of the menu.
Not much to add to the reviews of the food. Well above average for Edmonton and while not inexpensive, generally good value for money. Some interesting and playful flavour combinations that were unexpected, but delightful variations on traditional Italian (I have been to Italy on at least 10 occasions and this food would stand up to much of what I have eaten there). The decor is casual but not comfortable. The banquettes appear to be concrete covered in a thin layer of fabric with no padding whatever. I recognize that this may be trendy, but it very uncomfortable and not conducive to a relaxed enjoyment of the meal. A small service glitch was bringing the wrong wine but this was quickly corrected. A more serious concern was that one of appetizers was forgotten. It was eventually delivered about 20-30 minutes after the other appetizers, just as we were completing our second (salad) course and were about to receive our primi. We were not offered the option of forgoing the appetizer, but as it was not appropriate to that stage of the meal we did not really want it. In most good restaurants, we would have been offered an alternate that could be prepared more quickly or would not have been charged for it. I am unlikely to return unless a dining companion suggests it.
We were at Uccellino for my daughter's birthday supper. Four of us, one bottle of very good wine, plus two appetizers, one salad, two pasta, one main course, two desserts, we paid $50 per person including tips, and we were full. We didn't find the place too noisy. The service was very good. The food are all designed for take-your-time sharing with friends and family, just like a late evening meal at a restaurant in Italy. Highly recommended. Reservation is a must.
I made a reservation online for 5 people for Sunday evening. Turned out another friend would like to come after I made the reservation. I emailed the restaurant 2 days before our dinner asking if we can add another person. The message was promptly responded and our reservation was updated to reflect the change immediately.I arrived 10 minutes before our reservation and the table was ready for us. The decor of the restaurant is clean, sleek, modern, but not pretentious. It was a little bit noisy in the restaurant because of all the hard surfaces. The bench seats along the wall however are too hard and uncomfortable (not sure about the chairs but no one from our group complain). The server was professional and prompt. Some of our friends were running late, and I wanted to wait and see if they would like to share a bottle of wine instead of ordering individual glasses. The server brought out the water while we waited and a small bowl of complimentary marinated green olives. Whenever we had a friend came in, he would come over and see if we would like anything. He kept a close eye on us and made sure we were promptly served. The wine list was extensive. Lots of choices of Italian wine. Good selection whether you want a glass or a bottle. The marinated olives were so addictive! Well marinated with a hint of citrus, crisp and juicy. I'm glad he brought out a small bowl to share or I'll keep snacking on until I'm full. From looking at the menu, the plates are meant to share (make sense for Italian food) but our group would like to order individually. Between my husband and I, we shared a Pappardelle $26 (primi, i.e. first course), and a Char-Grilled Lamb Sausage $33 (secondi, i.e. second course). Love love love the Pappardelle. Love the texture of the pasta, cooked to perfection, the sauce was clinging onto every single noodle. The white ragu of pig's head and prosciutto was well seasoned and juicy. Parmigiano added a nice nutty salty flavor to the dish. Absolutely love it. The lamb sausage was good. Well executed. Well charred on the outside yet tender inside. My husband thinks it's a little bit too lean which I agreed, however the sausage was not dried at all. Very well seasoned with a hint of heat in it. The rapini were flavorful as well.My husband and I also shared an Olive Oil Cake and Olive Oil Gelato $10. Surprise! Strong and nice fragrant of olive oil, the cake was dense and moist, went very well with the soft and not overly sweet gelato. We both loved the dish. The prices are not cheap here but the food is superb compared to other restaurants in town. Service was good too. Minor complaint on the bathroom, there's only one for male and one for female and both of them are in the basement, and there's no counter surface to place my items in the bathroom. Overall, I'm impressed and definitely will return.
