Bidrage med feedbackI received this as a Christmas gift. We were able to observe the preparation of salmon and Guinea fowl dishes, as well as a dessert, before tasting them ourselves. It was a wonderful experience that was followed by a delicious three-course lunch. The food and service were outstanding, and I was impressed by the staff's attention to my mussel allergy and their willingness to accommodate changes to the sauce on the fish dish if needed.
In Edinburgh, where else can you find a place where you can learn about and enjoy incredibly delicious food? The menu presented to us was delightful, perfect for creating a special dinner at home with the chef's helpful tips. The lunch that followed was of exceptional quality, meeting the high standard set by Martin Wishart. I can't understand why this chef hasn't been awarded a second Michelin star yet. Overall, it's an experience that comes highly recommended.
We received vouchers for Christmas and decided to do the Cook School and lunch package. We arrived at the Cook School and were greeted with coffee and home made chocolate chip cookies, sprout of the oven. Our demonstration began and we watched the chef, who I think was called Graham, prepared and cooked White Asparagus En Papilotte, Monkfish Noilly Prat then Strawberry Mousse all of which tasted absolutely delicious. The chef was great and shared his knowledge in a really interesting and informative way. We were then transferred by taxi to the restaurant. The surroundings were lovely, the staff super attentive and the food was amazing. The only thing I would say is that we felt a bit rushed as the plates were very swiftly cleared and the next course immediately served. A little more time would have been appreciated. At the end we were taken on a tour of the kitchen which was really just a head in the door. There were a lot of chefs working there turning out fabulous food. I would highly recommend to anyone who loves great tasting food.
This is a relaxing and interesting way to spend an evening enjoying good food and wine and learning about the cooking. It's not really a demonstration since most of the food is pre prepared and what you see is the plating up it would be almost impossible to cook such a meal from scratch on the night. But the extra ingredient is the ability to chat to the chef when he is working and to ask questions about the process. There is no choice in the 4 course menu. On our night, the main course was duck cassolet and the chef was happy to explain the process for preparing the various ingredients including the stock which takes 2 days! The meal was tasty and adapted without fuss to be gluten free and the wine good value. We left with a much better understanding of the care and attention which goes into cooking at this level. Maybe not for you if you just want to ejoy a nice meal but an enjoyable way to see behind the scenes at a top quality restaurant.
The dining room was warm, bright, and comfortable, making for a wonderful meal experience. The service from all staff members was top-notch and attentive without being intrusive, with some delightful extra touches. The fixed menu was exceptional, and it was a nice touch to be able to watch the chefs prepare each dish using the angled overhead mirror. I highly recommend paying a visit to this restaurant.
