Really nice food and great service in a lovely restaurant. Not on the main drag: a hidden gem that's well worth the visit. Recommend.

Booked late on a festival weekend .Arrived not knowing what to expect other than what was on the website forgive me for always being sceptical!!! Food was outstanding… boom !. Well presented, taste was amazing, and the all round experience I am delighted to promote to others.. Well done All involved in putting the place together

New owners took over previous restaurant: stunning menu, well balanced and executed to perfection. We loved our dinner and the hosts were welcoming and we had a pleasant conversation. The ambiance is romantic and inviting, very chic and a lot of ate to details went into the restaurant. We totally recommend the restaurant!

We were heading to an Edinburgh Festival show and looking for a restaurant in town that we had not tried before. Merchants was our choice and we were not disappointed. From calling to say we were running late as Edinburgh traffic (sigh) was as problematic as always to paying for our food as we left the service was No1. The folks who attended our tables were just the right amount of attentive even as the place filled up. We eat in a lot of restaurants and I would say the staff get it. Then to the food. It was tasty, well presented and well priced for an old town restaurant. I had the beetroot salad, followed by parma ham wrapped chicken and strawberry compote. My partner had the terrine, beef shin and brownie both served with coffee. We will definitely be back and definitely recommend highly to all. I should say Covid rules were followed and we felt well looked after from sanitiser at the door to masks and cleaning.
