Bidrage med feedbackChez Jules, Hannover Street, Edinburgh – 15th May 2014 05 16 Our first adventure of Food Club was a roaring success. Beers were flowing and Frogs legs were dancing. Garlic filled the air like clouds gathering in a storm. Some Snails were unshelled and a duck leg was devoured. Salmon was leaping from the plate in joy while a plate of meat was served like a feast. Apple and Black pudding was proudly gobbled. More beers flowed as the main course was served Le terre Mer (Surf Turf) was the popular choice, pink tender steak served with a memorable half lobster. Pommes frites were on the side with a selection of awe inspiring sauces. That not to your liking? How about King Scallops with crispy bacon or perhaps a luscious chicken primed for consumption. With the Beer still flowing and volume of banter rising, a manly shout of “LE DESSERT MENUS PLEASE” The overwhelming choice was for banoffee toffee pie, so sumptuous it was, with sweet caramel and large banana segments chopped kindly throughout. One man was encouraged by the sweet menu and ordered one ball of ice cream doused in that famous French liqueur… VODKA. The meal ended with the customary payment of the bill and a photo with the lovely staff. It was then time to peruse Edinburgh’s finest taverns to end our evening
Chez Joules does amazing French food for fantastic prices. The set lunch offers 3 courses for £9.95 including some of the best steak and chips I've ever had... And that's before I mention the amazing chocolate mousse. Tres bien! I was sat at a table with a rather rickety bench which added a bit of excitement to my lunch. A proper chair would have been great.
Thanks to Urban Traveller for the tip!Kate Re and I loved this place!A cosy and a bit loud atmosphere in a true little piece of France in Edinburgh! Very Good house wine and excellent food! Stuff and service were perfect, I'll definitely come back!
Absolutely perfect. The service and food were excellent. They have all the French staple dishes on their menu. The atmosphere is very relaxed and youthful, but also very chatty, which I personally like, but might be too loud for some people. 5 star!
I thought Chez Joules was going to be a quaint and cosy kinda place but it's about four times the size I expected it to be and (though maybe because it was a Friday night) pretty loud and boisterous. Consequently it might be the sort of place you have to be in the mood for (too close together tables meant people kept unapologetically barging behind my seat to get passed). But the food is delicious and the service was pretty fast and efficient for being so busy. Four of us shared/devoured the macaroni cheese as a starter then I plumped for the very reasonably priced rump steak (perfectly cooked and with its own dish of dauphinoise potatoes too). Had a delicious brioche thing with ice cream, caramel and peanuts to end and all washed down with decent red wine. Pas mal!
