Always a good home cooked meal at the Big Scoop. The openness of the eating area can make it very loud when the place is packed, but the food and service are good.
I have dined at this restaurant several times and each visit has been disappointing. One time, I had to wait almost an hour for my order. Another time, they offered me a choice between homemade fries or frozen fries (I was tempted to point out that I could easily make frozen fries at home). On a separate occasion, the food was subpar - the fries were cold and the clams tasted rancid.
My family visited the restaurant on Saturday, July 23rd, around 5:30pm. It was very crowded and we were only greeted with a question: "Do you have a reservation?" I answered that we did not, and the hostess informed us that every table was full. I tried to inquire about the wait time, but she ignored me and took a phone call. After she hung up, I asked again, but she said she had no idea and walked away. I understand that they were busy, but the way she treated us was rude and seemed like she just wanted us to leave because we didn't have a reservation. We just wanted to know the wait time so we could decide if it was worth it. At that point, we didn't even want to stay after being treated as though we were bothering them by wanting to dine at their restaurant.
The server hesitated when asked about the specials, and then had to be promoted reminded there was more that she forgot about. It was over 5 minutes before menus where brought over after we were seated, on top of this we were the only people being served as everyone else was departing. The meals: The intimidator burger was over cooked, fries had no flavour, and the coleslaw was fine and the platter the fries at 3.99 (for basically a side that should have been included) was over priced. The Caesar salad was wilted and served on a flat plate and no matter how you tried to use your fork most of it slide onto the table. The lobster roll with the cup of haddock chowder, well the bun was a toasted hotdog bun, with a single sheet of leaf lettuce with lobster tail and claw all of which had almost no flavour or smell and very chewy and made a complete mess, and the haddock chowder had no seafood/ fish taste and all and was like eating bland potato and water. The only favour was the salt I added to it, and to top of the lack of flavour nothing of the seafood items I ordered never even had a hint of seafood or fish smell. All in all the 42.00+ for the 3 items was not worth the money or the time and effort to drive there.
