Hemingway's Wine Room - EAST MELBOURNE

The staff were exceptional. Excellent cocktails (the best mojito ever), a very good wine list, and divine food. This is an excellent restaurant. Highly recommended!

I used to go monhly before lock downs. On this first time back the steak premium price was overcooked. Embarassingly so, as this was a business dinner. Maybe they lost their chef over lock down. Starters, wine etc were still excellent. But I would check first and hold the line over steak it was one of the best in Melbourne. Hoping this was a once off.

A strong '70 's vibe with the interior decor/design. Meal was disappointing and I did not finish it. Friendly and attentive service. There are many more restaurants I would recommend for a good French meal and decent wine above this one.

I would probably give Hemingways a 3.5. The ambiance food was ‘nice’. I think the portion sizes are very small for the price considering that the standard isn’t fine dining. Although the food was good every dish felt like there was something amiss or that it was trying to be fine dining when it isn’t. One thing I really couldn’t get past was the lack of wines by the glass when they are purporting to be a wine bar. When asked for descriptions of a couple of the wines not much information was given when I was offered a ‘taste’ of one I was told that it is okay to give a little try because it’s a wine served by the glass. This was mentioned twice for just one small try of wine. This is common practice at most wine bars but I was left feeling that I should be grateful to be given a try of wine. Again, nothing bad about the place but just not up to standard for the prices being charged.
