Bidrage med feedbackThis is an excellent old-school Italian deli with fantastic sandwiches! It was a delightful surprise. Be sure to order ahead and pick it up. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu!
I had a disappointing experience at this restaurant, as the Italian food was among the worst I've ever tasted. I’m shocked that they charge what they do when everything is simply drenched in oil with no real flavor. The dishes seemed poorly made, and neither the penne vodka nor the meatball sub I tried on different nights were edible.
I received a 35% discount from GrubHub, but that really doesn't make up for the outrageous markups they charge! The food was just okay, but the price difference between the restaurant and GrubHub was ridiculous. For instance, I ordered a Caesar salad that costs the restaurant $11.99, but GrubHub charged me $18.99—what a $7 difference! I also got a chicken Francese that the restaurant has priced at $18.99, while GrubHub wanted $28.99 for it. A $10 markup is just shameful! I definitely won't be using GrubHub again; it's a total rip-off! Although GrubHub is offered for free with Amazon, the prices are simply unacceptable!
First off, the Escarole and White Beans were overcooked to the point where the escarole lost all its flavor, and the beans were mushy—making it feel like you were scooping ice cream out of a heated container. Next was the Broccoli Rabe with Orecchiette and Sausage—a classic dish that reminds me of Cittanuova down the street. Unfortunately, this version was smothered (and I mean overwhelmed) with shredded Ricotta Salata cheese, which I usually enjoy, but the rest of the dish was bone dry. There was absolutely no sauce or moisture at all. The broccoli rabe tasted like canned spinach and was just as unappetizing—awful and dry. I won’t be spending my money here again. Even the sandwich I tried first was just mediocre. I’m also skeptical about the Italian cookies on display, which are usually my favorite, as they seem stale rather than fresh and are likely not checked for quality. Over the past decade or so, this place has gone from standing out to settling for "good enough," and now, "good enough" just isn't good enough anymore.
This may be the finest deli I’ve ever visited. The bread, mozzarella, sauces, and sandwiches are all outstanding. We tried the Enzo (Italian cold cuts), the Jack Anthony (chicken cutlet sandwich), and the Portobello focaccia, and they were all exceptional. If you make only one stop in the Hamptons, make it this deli.
