Bidrage med feedbackMy car broke down on the Axminster bypass and I lost the motivation to continue driving for another 4 hours. I decided to stay at the George Inn and stumbled upon an amazing Halloween party. Despite the busy event, the staff were attentive, sympathetic, and checked me in promptly. The hotel has recently been renovated and is beautifully furnished and decorated, making it very comfortable, clean, and cozy. It is a hidden gem with convenient parking and great value.
I had made a reservation for 6:30, but upon arrival, I was informed that food would not be available yet as the cook had not arrived. I ordered a starter of mushrooms with garlic and parmesan, which was disappointing with little flavor. Two people ordered the fish and chips with 'Home Made Tartar Sauce', but it was not available as the delivery had not arrived. I ordered a rare steak with a pepper sauce, but it arrived well done and the sauce was watery. The service was slow and disorganized, with missing condiments and cutlery. The waiter was unhelpful and aggressive when addressing our concerns. I recommend avoiding this restaurant until they improve their service and hire more competent staff. Overall, a very dissatisfying experience.
The restaurant offers food that is somewhat well-prepared, but the staff seems uninterested and the kitchen operates on their own schedule. It's no surprise they are looking for a new chef, as it's apparent that there are issues in the kitchen.
A pleasant setting, with helpful, friendly staff. The quality of the food was excellent. As a Coeliac, I need a gluten free menu and this was not a problem here.
