If it were just about the fried chicken at Mutt's, I might be slightly more impressed with the barbecue. The barbecue is decent but not remarkable, and honestly, I wouldn’t return for that alone. It lacks humidity, isn't smoked well, and doesn't have much flavor. The sauces are quite bland, and they don't offer the vinegar-based sauce that many of us in the area love, nor do they have a spicy option. While Peace Chicken is an improvement over Little Pig's, which serves rather lackluster BBQ, it’s still a stretch to say it's outstanding. The ribs are acceptable; however, they could benefit from being seasoned or rubbed before cooking. It's as if they overdid the salt. The ribs are tender and moist, and they have a nice exterior thanks to the Maillard reaction, but sadly, that's about all I can commend them for. The pulled pork was decent but didn't quite hit the mark in a way I can’t quite pinpoint. The green beans were alright but had a slight bitterness to them, while the macaroni salad was surprisingly good, featuring fresh chopped tomatoes. Unfortunately, it was difficult to get a good portion since other guests had spilled slaw and beans into it, and I wasn't keen on mixing everything together. The macaroni and cheese, however, was tasty, creamy, and moist, though the pasta was slightly overcooked. My father-in-law mentioned that the rice and hash were really good with a bit of a kick. I wanted to try them too, but I was too full from the roasted chicken. And this brings me to the main reason you should visit: the fried chicken is exceptional. Absolutely perfect. While I wouldn't say it's better than the roasted chicken at Walhalla Steak House, it certainly stands out in its own traditional Southern way. With crispy and savory skin over juicy, tender, and flavorful meat, I simply couldn't stop eating it. I knew right away that the fried chicken would be my main highlight. Another reason to visit is their delicious banana pudding and sweet potato casserole topped with a crunchy brown sugar and pecan layer. And let’s not forget the assortment of ice pops available in a cooler — I might be too old for them, but I enjoyed a push pop thoroughly. About 45 minutes after we arrived, my father-in-law finally stopped eating. He seemed to enjoy everything more than I did and proved it by clearing multiple plates, several glasses of tea, and bowls of various sides, along with desserts and coffee. I think he tried nearly everything on the buffet! A few additional notes: the ambiance was delightful, the seating was very comfortable, and the staff were friendly and attentive.
This BBQ buffet is fantastic! The ribs are excellent, and the pulled pork is top-notch, along with the Brunswick stew. At night, they offer popcorn shrimp and a variety of vegetables. Dessert and drinks are included in the price, making it a great value for delicious food.
Best BBQ buffet! I recently relocated from South Carolina to St. Petersburg, Florida, and the place I miss the most is Mutt's BBQ. The ribs are outstanding, especially for a buffet-style restaurant.
The BBQ Buffet . The Easley Mutts has a great buffet. Thursdays, I believe, they have a smoked chicken, it is so good. Just wish it was available more often. They really make an effort to keep things on the bar fresh. they have the bestsweet potato crunch around, including single serve places. If I can fault them on anything, it has to be that the coleslaw is straight from a box, but is still very good for boxed. With how good everything else is, I do think they could have a great homemade slaw.
