House Of Tamale - Eagle River

I tried the red and a green tamale. Both were served hot and were very tasty. The red tamale was my favorite, it has a nice kick to it with the spices and peppers used. The Tamales are small so I would order more than two next time. The tamales were moist, not crumbly and dry like other tamales I have had. Also ordered a side of rice and beans. I was impressed with the flavor of both. Especially the beans which were cooked with fresh roasted peppers and other spices. Topped with Pico and sour cream this was a nice flavorful meal I would have again.

His tacos and tamales are delicious. My husband and I eat here for every Taco Tuesday and he has a special for every day of the week. It's just him running the place, but I've never waited longer than 15 minutes for fresh tacos or a super stuffed breakfast burrito

House of Tamale definitely serves some good food at a fast pace with good price. The tamales are good but even the red chili ones lack in spice, they do offer hot sauce at the counter though. The beef are my favorite. The only thing really lacking in the tamale plate is the beans, they are generally cold and bland. The rice has always been good, no complaints. Lets talk about service, the owner of the store has always been there working hard, and so do his employees. The owner is very condescending to his employees and I can tell he treats them like numbers. Just letting you know, there isn't that many bodies in Eagle River and you're definitely not paying enough for people to commute. My biggest complaint about the establishment. The hours that they are open suck ass. I think they are down to just 3 days a week now? Went there last Wednesday and they were closed. Also the last time i went they were also closed at 2 pm one day as well. I believe I am done giving my money to this establishment until they get their act together, and by they I mean the owner. Doubt they will be open through next season.

The food is ok (i have tried all the chicken tamales, the corn tamale, the beef tacos). I wish they still sold salsa because I didnt get a chance to try it. A good salsa makes any food taste that much better. They mentioned that nobody bought it so they stopped selling it. They have a table with chairs but no public restroom. Its pretty confusing on whether or not the table is there to be eaten on or just to wait for your food. If it was meant for waiting they should have chosen a couple of benches instead. If it was meant to be eaten on they should open their restroom to the public so that we have a way to wash our hands. I would recommend this place only to support our local businesses and if you really want tamales that are not pre-packaged and sold in grocery stores.

Just went by to check out the new place. Family-run, bare-boned (in a good way) tamale shop. $3 ala carte tamales with a lot of variety, including vegetarian options. The pork with red chili tamale I just had was delicious! I can see stocking up on these for lunches.
