We were a group of five and arrived at 6:00 PM on Friday of the MLK holiday weekend. We were seated immediately and had our IDs checked against our vaccination cards. We settled in at a table towards the back of the restaurant. The service was quite good; our order was promptly taken, and there was already hot tea waiting for us at the table. They made sure to refill our teapot and water glasses throughout the meal. We ordered pan-roasted dumplings, two servings of crab xiao long baos (soup dumplings), two servings of pork xiao long baos, a crispy fried noodle dish, and a scallion pancake. That was more than enough food for our party of five. As for the dumplings, they were delightful. Chinatown is where I first tried and fell in love with soup dumplings. Between Joe's Shanghai and Joe's Ginger, I honestly don’t notice much of a difference—both are incredibly tasty. As someone from the West Coast, I can confidently say that Joe's is far superior to Din Tai Fung out there, which I find to be overpriced and overhyped. If you're in New York, make sure to give Joe's a try!
My favorite spot! I especially love the Thursday drum nights—it's a 420-friendly place that welcomes everyone. It's the perfect place to unwind with a cold drink after a long day at work, and there's always someone nice to chat with. Highly recommended!
