While traveling on the NC500 route, my companions and I stopped in Dornoch for the night. Hungry and in need of a meal, we stumbled upon The Coach House and were pleasantly surprised. Despite not having a reservation, we were warmly welcomed and seated promptly. The staff even accommodated my husband's mobility issues by rearranging the table for easier access. The menu had a wide selection and our dishes arrived quickly and did not disappoint. The men ordered scampi, which was plentiful, while my friend and I opted for the pie, which was simply delicious. I had the chicken pie, filled with plenty of meat and a tasty sauce. The men indulged in desserts, which arrived promptly after the mains – peach cobbler and a generous slice of chocolate and caramel cheesecake. The staff were friendly and attentive, and if we lived closer, we would definitely make regular visits to this fantastic restaurant.
I made a reservation at this restaurant months in advance. When we arrived at 7:30, the young waitress informed us that half of the menu items were unavailable. We had to wait a long time for our food, which included breaded haddock and a mixed grill. Unfortunately, the haddock was greasy and the mushy peas looked slightly grey, while the mixed grill was very dry and the carrots were cold. Overall, it was a pretty disappointing dining experience.
This is a charming establishment with very friendly staff and helpful locals. The celebrating couple at the bar even offered us birthday cake, which we politely declined but bought them a drink in return. This pub is truly lovely and definitely worth checking out.
