Chandpur - Donegal

Our experience at Chandpur was wonderful. Dining in at an Indian restaurant is always preferable to takeaway because of the excellent service and delicious dips and poppadoms. However, we also enjoyed our takeaway experience, ordering on Christmas Eve and eating it for our Christmas dinner. The atmosphere at Chandpur is great, and as a family with both meat eaters and a vegetarian, everyone was well taken care of.

For starters, we shared a tandoori mixed starter priced at €8.50, and for mains, we ordered butter chicken with plain rice, as well as a medium curry recommended by the staff - garlic chicken tikka chilli bhuna, also with plain rice. We also added an extra garlic naan for €3.95 to share. We declined the offered poppadoms, assuming we had enough food ordered, but they were brought to our table anyway, with staff mentioning they were complimentary. The mixed starter was delicious, and while the butter chicken was sweet and mild, it was enjoyable, especially for the children. The garlic chilli chicken had a spicy kick that even I found impressive as someone accustomed to curries. As for drinks, we ordered a jug of Miwadi for the table and two glasses of red wine at €8.45 each, which arrived in quarter bottles. Upon closer inspection of the menu, we realized the wine was actually listed at €6.45 each. Overall, the Indian cuisine was very tasty and deserving of its accolades. However, upon returning home, we discovered that we had been charged for the supposedly complimentary poppadoms and chutney, totaling €5. This unexpected charge for unordered items led us to revise our rating, reflecting a deduction for the sneaky overcharges. My husband settled the bill at the restaurant, but this incident left a sour taste in our mouths after an otherwise pleasant dining experience.

We were able to get a last-minute table and our food was served quickly within 15 minutes. We enjoyed a delicious curry with crispy vegetables and warm naan. It was our first night here, but we are already planning to come back tomorrow! Thank you.

We recently ate at Chandpur and as always, the food was exceptional. The prices are very reasonable and it is definitely great value for the outstanding quality of the meals. The atmosphere is always was warm and inviting, and the staff are incredibly attentive and friendly. If you’re looking for a place that offers some of the best food in Donegal, Chandpur is the place to go.

Very welcoming place, very kind staff, medium quality food, good taste. I expected a lot more given the reviews, but it's an experience to do!
