We drove to la escondida as a short stop to lunch and were pleasantly surprised! super friendly staff, charming place, very good food! definitely recommend.
We arrived at 15 o'clock, just before the kitchen was closed. the place was full. we were a party of nine (three generations) and suggested that we could break into a few tables. they said that “family must remain together”. that was personal. so friendly and accommodating. the food was fabulous. that was one of the best we ever had. we just ordered a deer, but they brought a cheese and meat plate to start, salate and empanadas. incredibly good and super reasonable. they will be shocked when they get the check we would have paid for two people in a comparable US restaurant. great service. Make sure that they take care of their waitress/wax when eating and service are exemplary.
I ate a great lunch here. a little out of the way and seems to care for rafting companies next to the door (number of ratings) but neither distracted from my experience. loved the cheese and meat starter plus smoked ribs! very good!
La Escondida is a real nice place to visit. The setup: We were 5 adults with my baby girl (2yo . We got there with a reservation and got a nice round table. The view was great, with the precordillera everywhere!. It was a hot day,...but thankfully it was a bit windy, therefore we did not suffer from the heat that much. Nonetheless, if there was no wind, I do not know if the heat could have been worse. The table itself was a big round one perfect for our group, with decent distance between other tables. The tablecloth, while nice to look at is a problem for your legs, it’s too long, and since it’s some sort of plastic it just creates a patch of extra heat for your legs. Service/food: The waiters were real good. Taking care of us and looking out for anything that we might require. Since the restaurant works with a pre-set menu, they still came back from time to time to check upon us. We all ordered the “Cositllar a la llama” real good amounts, and as this type of meat is usually served: well done. (if you like rare, not your pick! . the baked potatos seemed to be a bit old, but the rest of the food was nice. Nothing too spectacular, but yummy home-made kind of food. They recieve debit cards only, and charge up a 10% extra.
