Bidrage med feedbackI 'm a fan of Buddys Pizza and I 've been eating there at least once a week for more than 20 years. Tonight, March 21, 2022, I visited their downtown Detroit restaurant for the first time and was totally surprised not only by their really bad attitude and terrible service provided (wrong beer, wrong food) but by the mandatory gratuity i was forced to pay. I always tip very generously even when the food or service is below standards, but to be FORCED to tip is an entirely different thing. I hate to think this particular location is owned by the same people I 've been patronazing for decades at other locations...
I was told when going to Detroit, that I had to try the Detroit style pizza. This type of pizza is sort of like a deep dish pizza, but it is by far a lighter crust and it seems like it has cheese built up on the edge to really give it an extra crispy bite. I am not a big fan of deep dish pizzas, however, this pizza was not what I expected and it was very good. Buddy's seems to be one of the common names for best Detroit style pizza, and it didn't disappoint. The atmosphere was sort of like a sports bar, with a lot of TVs, but not over powering, so it was still very family friendly. We got their peperoni and a veggie, and both were very good. You could probably have 3 squares (yes they are served in 4 and 8 square pizzas), and consider that a small pizza. I would recommend trying their pizza and I will do some more taste testing the next time I'm in town.
After some time at the casinos it was a perfect spot to get a pizza and salad to go. It was fantastic and just perfect in our hotel room after a long night. The staff was great and helped us out with plates and plastic forks and knives. It’s been around for a while and I can see why.
We prefer thin crust pizza, but Buddy's Detroit Style pizza is the best ever ! Perfect crust in every bite !
Buddy’s literally invented the Detroit Style pie, and decades later they’re still the kings of this style. You’ve probably had a Detroit Style pie even if you don’t don’t realize. The square pizza from Little Cesars, yep that’s 100% Detroit. Cooked in a sheet pan with a thick buttery crust, this classic pie is as much a celebration of the dough as it is the toppings. I had my go-to pizza, a pepperoni with green olives and garlic. The pie may look a little small (small’ish 8 square slices), but at roughly and inch thick you’ll find that it is VERY filling. I also highly recommend the anti-past salad. Lettuce, and enough salami/pepperoni to build one heck of a sub, and slathered with Buddy’a house vinaigrette, this thing is a meal by itself. If you find yourself in the Motor City and want a pie that’s as historic as it is tasty, Buddy’s is the place to be.
