Truman's Kc Pizza Tavern - Des Moines

We chose a spot on one of the patios, where another family was finishing their meal. As we sat there, several employees walked by, cleaning and tending to other tables, but no one acknowledged us. After 15 minutes without any greeting from a server, I considered leaving, but decided to give it a little more time. Another 20 minutes went by, and still no one came to assist us. Reluctantly, we moved inside, even though we preferred to stay outside. It took about another 10 minutes before a hostess finally greeted us. In total, we waited over 45 minutes just to receive our drinks, despite the fact that there were few customers inside—only the patio across from us was occupied. On the bright side, the food was good, and once we received service, it was satisfactory. However, the long wait was frustrating, especially given how quiet the restaurant was. Unfortunately, due to this experience, we likely won't return.

I was lucky to arrive after the lunch rush. The waitress was incredibly pleasant and patient, especially since there were so many options to choose from. She kindly let us sample the pizza sauces, which complemented the fried cheeseballs that might be the best I've ever had. Even the leftovers tasted fantastic the next day. I can’t wait to try their breakfast!

Truman's is one of my top picks, especially as a big Kansas City Royals fan. The pizza is fantastic, and the sandwiches and main dishes are equally tasty. The beer is always cold and plentiful. The staff is exceptionally friendly, making you feel right at home. The bar has a charming rustic vibe since it's built from an old house. There are TVs all around, and plenty of outdoor seating. The only downside is the small parking lot, so be ready to parallel park if it’s busy. I wholeheartedly recommend it!

We shared a 22 inch French dip pizza. Pizza was good and fed the two of us and a box to go.

The pizza I tried was delicious, including the French bath option. The waitress was friendly and the service was great. Unfortunately, the item I wanted was not available today.
