Chens - Derry

This was the first restaurant I visited for Chinese food when I moved to Derry from Stoneham, Massachusetts. I tried another place in town but ended up returning to Chen's immediately! The bartenders are fantastic, and the food is exceptional!

To make matters worse, one guy was walking around smoking a cigar, which filled the whole lounge with a terrible smell, and no one addressed him about the no-smoking policy. One of my friends ordered a soda, but when it was delivered, it was actually water. She mentioned this to the waitress, but they just left it there anyway and charged us for it. We spoke to what I assume was the owner about not paying for the soda, and although she looked annoyed, she eventually removed the charge. If you're looking for a smoky atmosphere where you won't mind getting a headache and being surrounded by intoxicated patrons with poor service, then this is the place for you.

I was at a friend's house in Derry for her birthday celebration, and we ordered from Chen's. It was absolutely delightful! The beef and broccoli was spot on, and the lo mein was equally fantastic. I've been craving their teriyaki beef sticks for the past five days! If they weren't so far away, I would definitely order from them every week.

I've always enjoyed going here until this past Saturday night. I went with my friend, ordered cashew chicken with extra cashews and white rice. Not too difficult. I was served pork fried rice and I am allergic to it. After 10 minutes I was finally able to ask the bartender for white rice. She asked if she could put it on the side. I said no thank you, I don't want pork on my plate. So she comes back with white rice and now it's Kung pao chicken. I then had to wait for another 5 minutes to ask why I didn't get cashew chicken with extra cashews. She them said she'll take it back. She comes back and there are no cashews. I then waited another 5 minutes to ask her why I didn't get extra. She said the cook thought it said no cashews when it said more cashews. I don't know who orders cashew chicken without cashews. Needless to say I expected at least my meal to be complimentary since my friend was done eating and I was just starting after this ridiculous service. I probably won't go again because of the terrible service and no apology. Just a bill. Oh and I waited 5 more minutes or so for a FORK!!!!!

Great food. Staff very nice. Surprisingly loved the orange chicken. Will be back.
