Bidrage med feedbackWhew child. While I appreciated the ominous “you can TRY to get a drink” warning we got front the host, I can honestly say my first time at Troppo was not good. We get it, it’s Silver Bells, you are busy, but not acknowledging a customer sitting at the bar in front of you for 17 literal minutes, TF. We walked right up to the bar and no one even glanced our away. Not a hello, not an apology for the unacceptably slow service. Optics are important; stopping our drink service so that you can serve the guy who is desperately trying to prove he knows the owner is not a good look. The drinks we ultimately waited over twenty minutes for were a bit over poured. The wait sucked sure but the service was disrespectful. Who the hell staffs two people to handle a myriad of drills during Silver Bells near the nexus of the entire event?? yikes yikes yikes. The mismanagement of Friday night is the reason this was my first AND last time here.
My husband and I decided at the last minute to go to dinner on New Years Eve. I hadn't been to Troppo since they were in East Lansing which had been many years. We were quickly seated by the very business like host at the front desk. We felt fortunate to get a table at all so this was unexpected. Our server introduced herself, Sydney. We ordered drinks and began to peruse the menu. She came back several times till I almost felt pestered..? We finally ordered, I the lobster risotto, my husband the strip steak with garlic whipped potatoes and asparagus. We chatted and ordered another glass of wine and a beer for him. Our food was delivered in a decent about of time. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. This risotto was not only tasteless and unseasoned, but a good critic would have a field day picking it apart...very poorly made. I consider myself an above average home cook and I could have done better blindfolded. Any chef knows risotto is about layering flavors. A lobster risotto should have begun with a lobster stock..this literally tasted of absolutely nothing..zip. The lobster was fresh which was the only good thing I can think to say. My husband didn't rave, didn't say much at all about his meal. We brought 1/2 of each meal home. Today I reheated his leftovers and took a taste to check for heat and his potato was not only dry and not seasoned at all, but I didn't taste garlic either. We recently ate at Bowdies in Lansing and had an $89 tomahawk steak so clearly money is no object, but for what we paid for this dinner, Troppo should be ashamed of themselves for what they put out. Most disappointing meal I've had in ages. I'm sorry that this was harsh but $120 meal should leave a good taste in your mouth. Also, the server returned to the table when we said we'd look at a dessert menu. We were still enjoying our drinks, told her we weren't in a hurry. She still kept coming back and asking if we'd decided. We finally ordered coffee and a dessert to share just to get her to leave us alone, we felt rushed and pushed. We are very friendly people who have children who worked in the restaurant business in the past so we're always patient and friendly and rarely ever complain. She was cold and indifferent. Truly an underwhelming experience all around. I was just reminded by my husband that to add insult to injury, we were charged a 2.8% fee for using our credit card!! Really??? ?
Really cool and relaxing place, the atmosphere is friendly, the food is tasty and the service is fast.
This place is closed now but it was Classy. Atmosphere like no other. It is replaced by Tavern Tap. Same owners. Can't tell you about this new place but if it's same owners I don't expect any less class.I'll rate soon as we plan to go back soon. This time for Tavern Tap. Parking: Meter parking. First come first serve. We have never not found parking. It's close.
We just dropped in for a quick beverage between meetings. Bartender was very efficient and accommodating. Appreciated her fast service for our short window of time. Would definitely back when I had more
