Bidrage med feedbackThis is a fantastic spot for breakfast or lunch. I visited on a Friday for lunch and had a choice between deep-fried chicken strips and deep-fried cod. I opted for the cod and was served two beautiful pieces that were absolutely delicious. The meal comes with a selection of three sides, and I chose potato salad, green beans, and cherry cheesecake. All the sides were excellent. The restaurant is quite popular with the locals, and it appears that everyone knows each other. While the exterior may not look like much, don't overlook this gem!
I might be too generous giving this place one star. The diner was incredibly humid, with condensation covering all the windows. The lack of ventilation left a lingering smell of food that I can't seem to shake off. To top it off, the food was disappointing and took forever to arrive. My sausage was burnt, and my omelette had raw, runny egg whites. I can't understand how this place has a four-star rating.
Drove the Jefferson highway from Bethany North to Iowa. I thought I'd go to Leon, ia, when I came across the Dinky Diner. I love old restaurants and this is a treasure. I hate that I didn't know this was only I-35 and was driven for years. Owner and waitress were super friendly and tenderloin wa. The best I can remember. It was my birthday, and it just made me! Let this explosion back from the past. I will regularly take friends and family. the ride of Des Moines or everywhere worth it!
Those who rate this charming diner with 1 or 2 stars seem to forget that it’s not a Michelin-starred establishment—it’s a cozy diner in a small town. The comfort food here is made from scratch, and you don’t find that kind of cooking everywhere anymore. It reminds me of my grandmother’s dishes: simple, welcoming, and full of hometown charm. You’re missing out if you haven’t tried it. I absolutely love it. Dinky Diner truly represents the best of small-town comfort food. Don’t forget to indulge in some cake!
Sad to say, because I love little one of a kind diners, but I would skip this one folks! The name is very appropriate as it is tiny as they get. The service is prompt and friendly but that's about it for the pluses. The whole place is in a stare of disrepair. Rusty fixtures and broken booths, condensation on the windows from lack of ventilation or insulation. Ordered coffee which was only .75 but they only have powdered creamer. Butter spread, not butter in the heartland, really? My sisters French toast was soggy and bacon limp. My hash browns were certainly not brown or even edible. Surprised that this place has good reviews. We stopped because of cute name and good reviews but hurried out as quickly as possible. If you are in the mood for mediocre food and an adventure that's what you will get here.
