Bidrage med feedbackWhile visiting San Sebastian, we decided to head out to the Geopark on the coast one day. We found this restaurant near a trail to the beach, and it was a great place for lunch. Appetizers are generously sized the salad with tuna was large enough for a main course. The fish terrine pudding on the English menu) was delicious, and the cod tortilla was perfectly cooked.
Having had a warm welcome last time we went off-road in Basque Country we tried again with Errota Berri. The reviews were good and so without a reservation we pitched up for lunch. The reception we received was not particularly warm, although the plastic seats outside without shade would have been hot. We ordered a couple of starters. A leek flavoured quiche that was light and delicious, and an artichoke dish which was unusual but OK. The mains disappointed a little. All in all OK but compared with nearby Asadors the service in particular let us down.
We felt so luck to stumble across this restaurant. It is an amazing find. Set in an idyllic dell set back from the stunning coastal path, it serves authentic Basque food with a friendly local welcome. We arrived at 2pm on a Sunday, it was incredibly busy. There was not a table available in the main restaurant until after 4pm (book ahead! , but the waiter kindly let us eat at a table by the entrance. He served us croquettes, and a huge tuna salad. This would have been enough, but he brought amazing rapa (on the menu 'plaice ' in English, but perhaps monkfish , it was served on a bed of garlic sautéed potatoes and was delicious. We had a couple of beers, and watched the Spanish families and walkers come and go. The bill was pretty reasonable, and we felt very grateful to the waiter for making space for us. Afterwards, we took the clearly sign-posted walking route to the sea, and took in the amazing views. Seek out this restaurant for great local food.
If you're traveling the cost by foot or car, make the effort to go out of your way for this one. Beautiful meat, seasonal vegetables grown on site. Patxi takes special prize in serving you a phenomenal local meal with the warm hospitality to match!
