Dining at the Chequers for a roast feels just like visiting your grandmother for a Sunday dinner (provided your grandmother was a generous and skilled cook). There’s an abundance of well-prepared vegetables, roast potatoes, and a selection of meats to choose from. The beef leaned towards the 'well-done' side, but it was still enjoyable. The dessert menu features authentic puddings, including a delightful steamed syrup sponge that I was served in a generous pool of custard; simply marvelous! The cost per person is around £20–30.

The staff here are very friendly, and I had a lovely pint. The steak pie was absolutely delicious! Overall, I would say the price per person is around £20-30. I’d rate the food a 5, the service a 5, and the atmosphere a 4.
