Rox Café Bistro Byob - Darby Township

Owner gave us complentary hummus and pita and it was very good. Also one of the best falafels I've had outside of Lebanon. Coffee was great

TLDR: open every day, AMAZING COFFEE, chill dudes, complimentary mint water with mint grown on site with composted coffee grounds!!Stopped in by chance a few weeks ago and have been coming back regularly because THE COFFEE IS UNBELIEVABLE!!! Got to talking to the owner about it (really charismatic and generous dude super welcoming) and it's obvious he cares deeply for the coffee making process. He was talking about how important the altitude and climate are in the end result of the bean as well as the way they are pressed (something to do with the oils in the roasted bean). Gets his beans from Costa Rica and is clearly very proud of his source and for good reason. Forgot to confirm but I believe they are Arabica beans which I hear are pretty tricky to do justice. Also seems like they have a great machine because the end result was a really smooth, warm, toasty coffee that was so easy and enjoyable to drink! Bonus: they compost the coffee grounds in the pots around the cafe where they grow their own mint. They then pick that mint and always have a pitcher of cool iced mint infused water which was the perfect way to stay hydrated while drinking coffee. All that and a cool location, with an interior I did not expect but pleasantly surprised me (a bunch of interesting paintings and usually music playing) and great conversation to top it off. It was an incredibly pleasant and welcoming experience and that's what's been bringing me back. Really wanted to like this place based on the great location and the friendliness of the owner. We gave it a couple chances, but each time they were out of a lot of menu items and the food was just ok. The last time, we ordered something and got something that sort of resembled it but with lots of parts substituted with odd replacements and it was not great. This was a while ago, so maybe things have changed? I hope they figure it out and succeed.

I dont know where to start with this review. It was one of the most bizarre dining experiences I have had, including dining in foreign countries where I dont speak the language.The staff was amiable, greeted us with a menu, and asked if we wanted coffee. We said yes, and no coffee came. Waters arrived, and still no coffee. We didn't have a chance to review the menu, but the server waited for us to place the order. We asked for coffee again and were prompted with cream and sugar, to which we said yes. The coffees arrived, but they were in to-go cups premade. Ok.They kept pushing their fresh OJ to our son. We said no, no less than four times. It must be some OJ. We ordered two breakfast Sammies, a pancake, and two eggs for our child. The sandwich was quite good. The pancake, not so much. It was more of a buckwheat (no fluffiness) and was drenched with syrup. Oh well. The eggs were more of an omelet than the two scrambled we asked for.We asked for utensils and got a fork each. We asked for a knife and got one—still no napkins, which we asked for 2x. Finally, napkins arrived. 2 sauces arrived at our table with no labels. I'm going with hot sauce and maybe a ketchup.There was NO one else eating here at 10 a.m. on a Saturday. Perhaps that should have been a sign. It felt like we were in a Twilight Zone episode. When we left, the entire staff came to say goodbye. As I said, very friendly. I can't say we will be back, but it was an experience.As others have stated, a 4% credit card fee which is a bit high since I dont think any credit card fees are 3%. They make it clear the fee exists.

This restaurant is a fantastic local gem. Whenever you visit, you always feel like you're part of the family. The food and drinks are excellent, and I highly recommend it. Parking is available on the street.
