Cannon's - Dana Point

Place was nice enough. Great view and the staff was friendly and reasonably attentive. Only fault was having to ask 3 times, and waiting 15 minutes, for them to replace a dirty plate and spoon. Bread was good. Clam chowder a bit thin. Lobster bisque very good. Jerk salmon very tasty and well presented. Would go back again.

We had a lovely family dinner at this restaurant. The food was delicious, and the service was friendly and welcoming. There were some rumors going around that they are closed, but that's not true—definitely stop by! We’re also taking a mud pie home with us.

The meal was not worth the price. We ordered the macadamia nut swordfish and the prime rib. The swordfish was overly sweet due to the breading, and the prime rib lacked flavor, with the au jus needing some salt or seasoning. Unfortunately, the vegetables turned out to be the best part of the meal. However, the view was lovely.

The best way to describe Cannons is "meh." The view is a solid 5 stars—absolutely amazing. The service is friendly, but just average. And did I mention how incredible the view is?

We just had the most disappointing experience we've ever had a cannons. 7 years ago tonight we were married at Cannons. I made a reservation To celebrate our anniversary, and stated we were celebrating our anniversary. Upon arrival, I told the hostess (young tall blonde girl) we had a reservation. Twice I tried to tell her we had a reservation (as I had left special instructions) but she just dismissed us without asking our names. She was extremely apathetic, never asked our name, asking if we were there for happy hour then just walked away, walking up the stairs then motioned for us to follow after she was halfway up the stairs. She left the menus and walked away failing to make us feel welcomed or as valued customers. If it wasn't for the fact that this restaurant held a special place in our hearts, we would have just left at that point and went to salt creek grille. Our server, while proficient, was not friendly or engaging, never offered specials and tried to hurry us through our dining experience. We came to reminisce about our special day and enjoy a nice evening, instead it was as if we were having a casual meal at cocos. Our busboy was phenomenal...we remember him from 7 years ago. The food was also fantastic, although the restaurant was very hot and stuffy and the fan in the corner was doing little to make it comfortable for the diners. The restaurant was not crowded (it was 5:30 on a tues evening) and while the manager visited the table next to us, could not be bothered to stop in and ask how our dining experience was...we certainly would have voiced our concerns at that time. By contrast, we celebrated our anniversary there in the past and had remarkable service, and a wonderful, memorable experience. Tonight was an epic fail and I imagine we will not return for future celebrations. Such an incredible disappointment for a place that held such a special place in our hearts.
