Greggs - County Durham

Our first visit to a Greggs. We decided to eat in, so we paid the higher price something to do with VAT i guess?

I really do not like the way this outlet is set out, although it remains popular for eats on the go. The access/queuing/browsing area is narrow and, as it is the only entrance straight off a busy pedestrian area,it gets easily cluttered with customers going in to and leaving the restaurant area. It doesn't take many people waiting to get served for those at the back of the queue to clutter up the street outside. Embarrassing and inconvenient really as passers by jostle to get past the narrow pavement (can be miserable too for those waiting to get in as there is no shelter in bad weather).. If dining in (and paying a little extra for the privilege) then the restaurant area at the back of the shop is clean, functional and basic (imagine an old cafe but without the charm). The staff are friendly and food quality is usually good with a fair variety. Pretty good value for money and quality control is adequate. I prefer to go at quieter times and try to avoid lunchtimes at all costs. Unfortunately this is precisely when Durham's many tourists and visitors will be most hungry looking for tasty treats. A redesign of the reception area is long overdue me thinks...

Greggs...... first and foremost a geordie institution as the very first Greggs was in Gosforth Newcastle upon Tyne. Now these cafes are dotted around the British isles where you get quality and quantity at a very small cost... Try the hot steak bakes, absolutely fabbbbb

From the moment you open the door,your mouth is watering! our favourites were the different sorts of sandwiches,made up in the traditional stotties . but by far,the corned beef pasties were to die for,wished our local greggs sold them!

My husband is currently using a wheelchair, which I find challenging to push due to my severe back pain. The staff noticed our struggles, took our order at the table, and brought the food and drinks to us. My husband loves Greggs bakes, and they were as delicious as always. All the staff were incredibly helpful, but Molly stood out and deserves special recognition.
