Izakaya Hachi Costa Mesa

It's good! Service is decent, location is intimate. Food was solid. Good izakaya.

We had a reservation and went on a Sunday before mlk holiday. the place was pretty crowded, but not full. we were told at check-in, we had two hours to dine. we ordered a few items, but not all, as we still navigate the menu. it was hard to place after the first order, as I guess the assigned server had to place the order. during dinner we just felt like we were getting out of the door. bad customer service best. I understand that the restaurant wants to be able to turn the tables, but they still had enough empty tables. the server were like robots. no smiling. very disappointed.

That was our first time we tried this restaurant. before the time reservations made for counterseats. we sat first next to the entrance to the kitchen. we asked to switch to the other side of the counter, because from some reason it smells like channel over there. right in front of us, behind the theke, was a cook that prepared the various rolls, and pressed sushi, along with salads and more. he had very good knife skills and prepared all dishes quickly. we have noticed, however, that he had to clean with the same cloth and wipe his knife, and also wipe the counter, cut and hardly rinsed the cloth. if they wipe the table tops to remove dirt, they should rinse the spice. or use another wut to wipe the knife. her knife is used to cut the fish, and all other raw food. their moats eat all the dirt they wipe off from the tabletops. the server were very friendly and attentive. there were many Japanese employees, and her chef was also Japanese. are they willing to pay on the higher side. the entire Yakitori dishes were very delicious, and all the different chicken dishes were not chewing or hard. the overall experience was quite good, despite the cook that contaminated the eating with the cloth. pouring over $170 for dinner, but has to eat quite good.
