Bidrage med feedbackThe last time I went in this pub was 30 years ago and it seemed like nothing had changed which was a bit surreal. The only real change is that on top of offering a vast array of well-kept real ales the pub now offers a great selection of craft ales with local breweries to the fore. The prices are competitive and the welcome warm There is a real atmosphere to this pub that must not be lost.
This place has a great choice of ales and craft beers, cider, wine and spirits. I really liked the atmosphere. Staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. No food is served but you can take in your own!
Visited as my partner is desperate to drop his nerves and perform at an open mic night, which they have and it’s called Acoustika. It is on every other Thursday and I found up to date, dates on their Facebook. We went, not knowing what to expect as pubs all have their own atmosphere. As do open mic nights. Well, turns out we needn’t have worried. The whole pub had such a friendly feel, nobody stares at you or makes you feel unwelcome. Sadly, partner did let the nerves win and didn’t perform, but we did happily enjoy a couple of hours of fun and pretty amazing live music from various performers. I think they would love more ‘fresh blood’ coming in to perform, and if that’s you, you’re very likely to have a warm and welcoming audience. Also the monkey nut shells on the floor is a random and awesome quirk. We came up with many a scenario of squirrels having got a ride from tehidy to raid the place of its shelled treasures lol.
This should be renamed the Best Ale House -great staff with proper knowledge of what they were pouring, and boy those ales and cyders were tasty and well kept. We went on a Wednesday and joined in a fun quiz run by Luca.Historical pub, beams and monkey nut shells on the floor. simply fabulous .
Pub itself seemed alright and the staff were friendly enough, but £9 for a pint? Really? I know times are hard, but that really is just taking the ****.
