Croust House - Cornwall,Isles of Scilly

Totally unexpected find! Food was fantastic: pizza, cornish tapas, burgers not just run of the mill stuff.. really well thought out, interesting ingredients.. vegan options too. Lovely atmosphere in the evening in the courtyard. Friendly helpful staff some good tunes quietly playing in the background. So good we came back a second night!

Stopped in for a lunch while exploring the area and had the Spiced pumpkin soup and sourdough roll, which was in a huge bowl enough for two people and a lovely large crusty roll. The soup was not over spiced and just the right thickness and the roll was large enough to match the size of the bowel. Also had the Toasted Pulled beef, cheese and tomato roll with green salad, coleslaw, cherry tomatoes and chutneys. Again an ample portion and full of flavour, the beef is slow roasted on site and personally I think just the pulled beef would have been better as I am not sure the cheese and tomato added any extra to the roll, but very tasty, tasty and recommended. Sat in the barn next to the log fire and with a lovey cup of coffee made a lovey relaxed lunch, obviously could not visit Roskilly without tasting the ice cream as well.

I have visited Roskilly's Farm in which The Croust House is based, many times over the last decade or more but today we ordered food that was so delicious I just had to write a top review. We ordered a falafal burger and chips. The chips were flavoured with rosemary (and another herb I can't remember) and we shared the 2 items. The portion sizes were plenty enough for us to share for lunch. The falafel burger and chips were both absolutely delicious!!! Everything about them were soooo tasty. The falafel was lovely, the chutney and pickled gherkins plus beef tomato and roasted courgette. I would definitely come back and re-order. The staff were very friendly and helpful. And the packaging all could be recycled. We also treated ourselves to a delicious Roskillys icecream. We both had the cornish cream tea flavoured one which was all the flavours you'd expect in a cream tea, very tasty. The walks around the farm are lovely, and you can feed the pigs, goats and geese. There are hand wash facilities after you may have touched/fed the animals. There are also bantams and chickens. The ponds also have ducks and moorhens, then there are the walks beyond, into a small woodland, through the orchard and back through fields back to The Croust House, and shop and gallery. The shop has many lovely items and crafts and is not at all tacky. Very good for greeting cards. All in all a fab day out and well worth a visit.

As a family who holiday at least twice in the area every year, we have been 'regular ' customers for over 40 years and it has been lovely to see the growth/development from the simple farm shop counter selling cream, to a lovely little restaurant offering a range of hot and cold food and very reasonable prices. Sadly the Roskilly cream is no longer produced but the Roskilly ice-creams are some of the best available in Cornwall. There is also a small gift shop (although our recent visit was in the evening so it was closed) Our recent visit consisted of myself and my elderly parents. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming, service was very quick and the food was delicious. We had pizzas which were far bigger than any of us could manage but fortunately they had boxes available to take away our leftovers! The menu choice is pretty good and we were just sad that we didn 't have enough room for dessert ....
