We head to this local pub sometimes on Friday's after work. They have great happy hour specials and great service. The place could use some freshening up as it hasn't changed much in years but still reliably good.
I hadn't been to Roo's in p'raps years, but got the urge for a solo pub dinner last night and made the short trek to welcoming doors. With the plethora of TV screens scattered about, it was a bit loud, but manageable, and I...easily found a comfortable seat. The server acknowledged me as I came in, but it was easily ten minutes before she brought a menu and gave me the list of the specials; I saw her come through the bar a half dozen times looking after other tables.. She was polite, very pleasant, very nice, but clearly she was overworked. It was another ten minutes before she brought my happy hour pints, a Blue Buck Ale, which was cold, crisp and excellent, and a bargain at a sleeve. My Signature Burger arrived ten minutes later again. Signature' is something of a misnomer, as it turned out to be more of a scrawl'. The bun was small and seemed stale, and the burger (and accompaniments) was greasy and virtually tasteless. The small pile of fries were overcooked in stale oil...at I would have expected a lot better, and much more. Hoping that dessert would make up for the burger, I finally got the young lady's attention, ordered the cheesecake, and waited. Read my book and waited some more. And more, for very nearly thirty minutes....I got her attention again, and simply asked for the bill...which came in less than a minute. Once more, I will defend the server; she was working her but butt off, but she just had too many tables...most of the folks around me faced the same delays with their orders. The Ale was indeed good, but I will find another Public House that serves it, somewhere with better food
The lighting in the restaurant was very poor. The upholstery on the furniture was severely torn. The food was just average. Additionally, they charge extra for refills on soft drinks.
It had been years since we had been to The Roo, but I'm glad we came back. It's tucked away off the main road so it's easy to forget it's there! It was not overly busy for a Friday night which was surprising, but nice...to enjoy dinner without a lot of noise. My husband had a burger which he enjoyed. I had the club sandwich on cranberry bread which was a great idea! My only complaint was the bread was a little on the dry side. Beer was cold and the service was decent.
