Mike's Family Restaurant - Cookstown

This was an enjoyable experience. The owner Mike is so friendly, he came out and talked with everyone while we were there. Our kids loved chatting with him. He told all kinds of stories about the pictures on the walls. The place may not look...like much from outside, but very cosy inside. Food is good, but Mike makes it great.

We dropped in to Mike 's Family restaurant for breakfast one morning. We were looking for a change of pace in the area. Well, we got what we paid for. We are a Very courteous couple and usually don 't expect too much from a family run...business. This place was not good. No one to welcome you at the door, so you kind of walk in. You immediately get the feeling that you are imposing on The Regulars and are not welcome. At that point we should have turned and ran.... The woman that finally spoke to us simply asked two? and walked us to a table. When I sat and picked up the menu, my arm stuck to the plastic table cloth. There was egg yolks stuck to the table and the chair beside me. We didn 't leave, but again, should have. A very long time later she returned for our order. The service throughout our visit was incredibly slow... which gave us lots of time to look at all of the photos adorning the walls. Although it 's nice to see family photos, they could use a lesson on Less is .... The food was not enjoyable either. The eggs were fine, but a child can get an egg. The potatoes were bland and you had to wonder if they were yesterday 's left overs? Luckily there wasn 't many of these fried potato offerings... We are fairly briskly and hurried out. Sometimes you leave small places like this with a kind of giggle of disbelief. This was not that. This place leaves you hunting for a sink and some soap. I would suggest any other local place in Alliston.

If you like typical American (greasy) eggs pork for breakfast, this is it. Personally I did not enjoy breakfast as much I had wished I prefer less grease pork alternatives.

If you have not been to Mike's restaurant in Alliston .. you have not really been to Alliston. Mike is the heart and soul of the community. He has served so many people over the years with good home cooked meals at reasonable prices. It's...our place to go for breakfast or any time. Mike himself sits down and talks to you as if you were family. So welcoming. Mike also gives back to the community to many charities. It's a restaurant that you always feel like you are back home. Go meet Mike and have some good food.

The service was quick, welcoming, and courteous. The atmosphere was fantastic and the food was delicious with generous portions. We'll definitely return soon.
