I love Indian food and this was my first dining experience at the Raj. I was not disappointed! The garlic Naan bread is delicious. Would recommend over the roti which is only served whole wheat. We had the paneer makni and chicken korma. I ordered my makni medium chilli but actually would go with hot next time as I enjoy alot more heat. The chicken korma was tasty but I felt the sauce looked abit lumpy and unappetizing. Will definitely be back to try more items as the menu is quite extensive.
THE RAJ CONSTANTIA – A WHEELCHAIR WELCOME!<br/ <br/ Remember my disability review for The Raj in Camps bay? Not on the “hot” side unfortunately, whereas Constantia had me smiling from the beginning.<br/ <br/ Situated in a shopping complex the benefit of easy access made getting into the restaurant magic. Parking for the disabled was available right outside the entrance. We were situated fairly close to the door but away from any disturbances of people coming in or going out. Unlike the last Raj there was no need to enter through the kitchen and for anyone using a powered wheelchair there is ample space for moving.<br/ <br/ Once again our party was lost in orbit as David our waiter ran backwards and forwards bringing Indian cuisine cooked to perfection. A bit of everything and then some more as Prawn Boohna, Chicken Tikka Masala and Nizami Gosht Biryani (Boneless lamb) were complimented by a vegetarian’s dream of Dahl Makni (black lentils with herbs and sun-dried spices), Channa Masala (chick peas cooked with onions, tomatoes, chilli and ginger) and Saag Aloo (diced potatoes cooked in a spinach gravy with garlic and cumin). Interspersed with Basmati and Saffron rice these dishes were swopped from one hand to the next. No shop bought bread to sup up the dregs but Peshwari Naan (traditional Indian bread stuffed with sultanas and cashew nuts). Some coolness for the throats included Grapetizer, Bottled water, Phat Indian Craft Beer and (I kid you not) Calmer Sutra Craft Beer. Two bottles of Boschendal white wine accompanied this assault of the taste senses.<br/ <br/ Like the other Raj there is no toilet for the disabled, but as is standard in a shopping complex there was one in the centre. Easy enough to get too as the ride is flat and effortless. The evening ended with lots of doggie bags and smiling faces. It was a wonderful and exotic experience for our taste buds and the friendly and efficient service from David made it a very enjoyable evening. Will I go back? I see no reason not too and encourage other wheelchair users to do the same.
Warm atmosphere, fantastic staff.<br/ <br/ Authentic Indian cuisine.<br/ <br/ Huge variety, vegetarian and non vegetarian options available.<br/ <br/ Mild, Medium or Hot.<br/ <br/ Well done!
A good Indian meal after a long day. Curry was great (chicken a bit dry in the Tikka Masala) and service was excellent. Partners lamb madras was great.
