Bidrage med feedbackThe house offered a good rainy day activity and offers an hour indoor spite from the weather. the gardens were breathtaking (if a little soggy,) with magnificent view over the lake. nice eating in the restaurant, although would have been nice, the possibility for a sandwich lights lunchtime as well as the main meal.
Lovely place not just for Ruskin's house but also the location. Stunning views of Coniston Water and an beautiful garden and amazing woodland Estate. The house is perfectly preserved as Ruskin would have known it. The woodland gives you the possibility to walk in deep nature to appreciate not only the view but also the sound of nature. Several well defined paths guide you around, up to the summit of the hill above the house. On the water one has the possibility to take a steamer ship tour around the lake. If you are lucky, you may also enjoy drinks and food on the restaurant terrace. Unfortunately we could not as the place was reserved for a private function, which was not advertised. All in all truly recommended to visit. On the occasion, you may also visit Ruskin's grave, in the nearby village of Coniston.
This is John Ruskins home and is well worth a visit. The staff are very friendly and helpful and also very knowledgeable. The cafe has a terrace with stunning views over the lake.
As always The Terrace Cafe at Brantwood has excelled themselves. A beautifully made flapjack (vegan) which, when paired with their chosen coffee, is simply perfect. Heartily recommend a visit whether for the food, the coffee or one of the best views in England (weather permitting). The Terrace itself is lovely (though you may have to share your cake with the cheeky birds) but inside is a wonderful place to wile away an hour or two.
What a little gem! We arrived by boat which in itself was lovely. We walked the grounds which were delightful, toured the house, visited a resident artist exhibition and had lunch in the cafe. Quite a lovely afternoon. Staff were friendly and helpful. The food was more than 5* best we had in the two days we were in the area!
