Lotus Kitchen - Colchester

Lotus Kitchen, a Chinese takeaway located on Mersea Island, is the worst Chinese food I have ever had. The food we ordered seemed to be reheated, with my chicken chow mein being very dry with hardly any chicken. The chicken balls were not fluffy and the batter was burnt. The curry sauce and sweet and sour sauce were watery, not thick as they should be. My partner ordered spring rolls, but they were filled with only bean shoots. After eating them, she had to throw the other one away. The next day, we both had upset stomachs. Don't be fooled by the star rating on the door – the place itself could use a good clean. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this takeaway.

I'm sorry to say that our experience at this Chinese takeaway was very disappointing. My daughter chose it for our last night on the island, but we were not impressed. The portions were small and the food lacked flavor. The chicken and prawn satay were overcooked, and the special fried rice was the smallest I've ever seen. I'm thankful that this is not my local restaurant.

Very good take away food, i love this place, good quick service and fab food..we order and collect, its always ready...friendly service

What can I say?. Worse Chinese I've ever had...so salty,spare ribs that looked like something had died.they were boiled..presentation left a lot to be desired...never again

Stopped off to get a takeaway whilst staying on the island. Unfortunately the dishes we ordered weren't great. Sweet and sour prawn and sweet and sour chicken were both very stodgy and greasy. The prawn toast was literally toast with prawns on top covered in...greasy batter. Always a shame to write a negative review but maybe it was just a bad day for the restaurant?
