La Courtine - Cognac

Staying with friends and we wanted to treat them so they brought us to this friendly, relaxed restaurant among the trees right by the river in Cognac. We settled with some very inexpensive drinks while perusing the menu, which was laid as a place setting. The choice was extensive, including a Dish of the Day, tempting salads and oysters as well as the A La Carte. From this there was more choice to have a set price either for two courses without beverage or three courses including wine, coffee and 15% service. We went for the three at the very reasonable price of 35 Euros each. Everyone enjoyed their dishes but I would highlight the starter of courgette and Parma ham roll with Gorgonzola mouse (different and delicious), sea bass main and panna cotta dessert. Then there is the local wine Pineau de Charentes. Wow! Why is this not available in Britain? Much nicer than Cognac in my opinion.

Avoid at all costs! Miserable owner, it was a special occasion and we chose this restaurant to celebrate. We wondered why it was mostly British and after the meal we realised why, the French know good food!!! When finally a French couple did arrive they were shown a specials board which non of us were. If you own a restaurant and want to make money, make your guests welcome!!! The food was appalling, Thai chicken was a cold chicken breast with a trickle of ghastly sauce. Steak was cold and chipped potatoes black! Avoid

We happened upon the restaurant by chance and so pleased we did. What a lovely place. Great atmosphere. It was raining and yet the outside tables were comfortable and accommodating. The staff were lovely and helpful speaking some English where we couldn’t quite rise to the French. Superb menu. We all had amazing dishes. Even the two year old in our group had a wonderful meal. Amazing dessert! Thank you to all the staff and chef. We will try to return before too long.

I called at restaurant and asked for a table for 1. The man said the restaurant was full and there were no tables available. I offered to sit inside where nobody was sitting and he said no. Terrible experience clearly he did not want my business or the group I was due to bring next week. Not customer friendly

Booked a table for outside but were informed not possible due to some light rain earlier but were informed it was not possible. As we were eating they seated French people outside. We queried this and we were not happy. French looking after the French .Very dissepointed with the service
