Macelleria - Clovelly

I visited this restaurant for the first time to try their burger, and decided to come back to try their T-Bone steak. The burger I had was delicious and fresh, and the steak was just as flavorful. I ordered it medium rare and it was tender and juicy. The side of chips were hot and crispy, and my colleagues also enjoyed the burger. We appreciated the concept of being able to see the meat before ordering.

The restaurant was bustling and busy at 6:45pm on a Saturday. You line up, select your meat from the butcher, and receive a number. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The 350g Cape Grim steak was fantastic for $19.90, served with a lemon slice. It felt like high-quality restaurant food at an affordable price. The Formaggio burger was delicious. They also offer salads and sides. There is a $5 corkage fee for bringing your own wine, and they are fully licensed. The staff was friendly and welcoming.

After numerous visits at Macelleria Bondi Beach, that would surely be my last one. I ordered a Wagyu steak, and after the first bite I could tell it's off, it even smelled really bad. I called the manager. a guy named Shaikat, and told him the the meat is off. He looked at me and told me that the meat arrives every Saturday, and just Wagyu has a different taste (Without even checking it) Well, I happened to be a Chef for quite a few years, and I know Wagyu steak, and in general I think it's quite easy to tell when a steak is off. My partner and I walked in here because we were intrigued by the concept of being able to pick your own meat straight from the glass display window like at the butchers. I chose the 150g Angus Ribeye steak because I only wanted something small for lunch and I got lucky with finding a small steak! They cooked the steak to absolute juicy perfection! Also I have to mention that the staff are a friendly bunch too. This place will now be our go to whenever we’re in Bondi.

The restaurant offers a convenient way to order your food quickly and easily, but be sure to secure a table as seating is on a first come, first served basis. The food is delicious and reasonably priced.
