Please make sure to ask for your receipt! The food at this restaurant was good, but we had an issue with our waitress trying to add a 20% tip without our knowledge on a bill for two people totaling under $25. When we questioned this at checkout, the cashier was unable to explain why it had been included. It was removed, but we were disappointed by the unprofessional behavior of the waitress trying to overcharge us. Despite the enjoyable home-cooked meals, we will not be returning to this restaurant.
I arrived at the restaurant at 10:35 and was informed by the man at the door that I could still order either breakfast or lunch. However, when the waitress came by, she mentioned that breakfast was actually over at 10:45 and did not return to take our order until 10:50, making us wait 15 minutes. I am deducting a star from my review because I am unsure if the man at the door gave me incorrect information or if the waitress was unwilling to take our order promptly. Another star is being deducted because the food took a long time to arrive. The texture of the squash was mushy, resembling applesauce, and the chicken fried steak appeared sloppily prepared, as if the cook had not put much effort into it. I have attached a photo for reference.
We decided to try this restaurant based on the positive reviews, but unfortunately, I cannot recommend it. The lack of air conditioning was a major issue, with the temperature inside being significantly higher than outside. I found myself sweating while waiting for my food. The mashed potatoes were old and had a filmy texture, and the fried okra was served cold. When we expressed our disappointment to the waitress, she responded in a dismissive manner and walked away, showing a lack of customer service skills. We ultimately chose to leave our meal unfinished and I do not plan on returning to this restaurant.
This place usually has decent food, on this one occasion the food brought out was cold and did not taste as it usually does. Brought this to the attention of the waitress and she goes I don't know what to do, let me get manager. She gets manager and he is like what wrong, we said our food is cold, he goes you want it replaced and we all said yes. He grabbed the cold food and took it to kitchen with him. Shortly later food is returned warmer with same lousy taste. We get our ticket to pay and manager is running register, we ask do you have a new cook because the food don't taste as it usually does, he got angry and said no same cook!! He said people's tastes change and that is what it must be. We stated we all noticed the difference and he seriously got angry and started arguing about how we thought his food tasted different. We had already paid for the meals and wasn't trying to get any discounts or anything, but just letting him know it was not as good as usual and the manager wanted to be disrespectful and argue this. This will be our last time eating at Susannah's. The disrespect of this restaurant is no good.
