We really enjoyed our Lazy Sunday trip to Overlook Farms. This was our first trip. We arrived at noon and there were only a couple of other diners. The setup is beautiful and what a great event space. We tried the Caprese Salad which was very good with the fresh tomatoes and mozzarella. Also tried the smoked chicken nachos which were made with fresh tortilla chips which was a nice touch. My farm fresh burger was good but not terribly memorable. For dessert we tried the seasonal fruit cobbler of peaches, blackberries, and blueberries and was served in a little cast iron skillet and topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The cobbler was great but they cook it in the pizza oven and must have taken straight to the oven to our table Bc it was 10 minutes before it was not molten lava and our scoop of ice cream was reduced to a puddle on the top of the cobbler. Once it was at a reasonable temp and edible it was quite good. We will definitely be back next year to try other seasonal offerings. Anyone looking for a unique event space, this is your spot! HWY 79 does have bridge construction going on right now so the route does have a detour for the remainder of this year.
We went to Overlook Farm with another couple for dinner on a gorgeous Saturday. Having read the review in one of the St. Louis area food magazines our expectations were high for a great meal. Unfortunately our expectations were not met...we ended our evening eating chicken wings in St Charles at a lovely pub. The server had no idea of what the menu had to offer nor could she make any suggestions. I ordered a French 75 martini...big mistake...nasty taste. The best part of the meal was the pimento cheese served with bacon jam and sliced French bread....we asked for mor bread to finish the app but never received it. The entrees were HORRIBLE..my friend ordered the chicken dish which showed up as a watery goop over watery mashed potatoes and vegetables that were rock hard. I ordered the trout with polenta and corn salsa....the fish was clearly not fresh and cooked into oblivion....my husband had a pizza which tasted sweet unexplainable as he ordered only meat on it....our fourth guest ordered a hamburger that was just meh! Our collective best advice is turn around, save your gas and get chicken wings at a pub in St. Charles!
