Cafeteria La Italiana - Cienfuegos

One of the highlights of our trip was discovering the abundance of pizza places in Cuba. We had already tried street pizza in various locations, but weren't sure if we would find them in the vineyards or if it was just a city thing. Luckily, we stumbled upon several spots along the promenade that offered Cuban pizza. We ended up choosing the Italian coffee shop, located between San Fernando and San Carlos streets, just a minute away from our accommodation. The pizzas were delicious, with a fluffy dough cooked in a coal oven. The prices were incredibly cheap, with a cheese pizza costing 7 pesos and a ham pizza just 10 pesos. Despite the small size, one pizza was filling enough for us. We recommend grabbing a pizza from the Italian coffee shop and enjoying it on one of the benches along the promenade.

Along with the tranquility and order that is breathed in Cienfuegos, another thing that we liked the most about the city was the amount of places where they sell pizzas. In Havana we had already eaten street pizza from various places but in Viñales we didn't see any more so we didn't know if we would see this type of street restaurants again or if it was just something from the capital of Cuba. Fortunately for our wallets, in Cienfuegos we could say that there is also a fever for the so-called Cuban pizza and along El Prado Walk, we came across several places that made pizza and pasta. Of all of them, we stayed with the pizzas from Cafetería La Italiana, a small local located on El Prado Walk between San Fernando and San Carlos streets, just a 1-minute walk from where we stayed. The pizzas were very good, with a fluffy and quite thick dough made in the charcoal oven they have, a kind of safe box converted into an oven. What the Cubans don't invent, no one does! The prices, as usual when it comes to street places, were very cheap and in national currency. Cheese pizza 7 pesos and cheese with ham 10, less than 50 cents of a euro. Every night, the pizza from La Italiana was part of our diet and although they may seem small in the photo, the truth is that one of these pizzas already left us very full. So if you pass by there and are hungry, don't hesitate to order a ham pizza at Cafetería La Italiana and eat it quietly on one of the benches along El Prado Walk.
