Umai Restaurant - Chicago

We came to a mostly empty restaurant. yet we sat beside one of the only occupied tables. we asked if we could sit elsewhere than the tables were fixed and our table would have another reservation in 1 hour 15min. none of these tables were filled during our time in the restaurant, but we were made to sit super close to another couple (which had terrible table manage, made worse by the close dead quiet of the restaurant). we were for sashimi. the 10 piece plate ordered. confirmed with the waiter that it would not only be the ground fish (needed to order an LA card if yes). the waiter assured us that it was not easy. it was easy and the fish was cut by someone who doesn't know sashimi. we are not coming back.

Visiting my daughter who’s attending college at DePaul. She comes here quite a bit and recommended Umai as our dinner spot. So delicious and so chill. I was also pleasantly surprised at the prices. Will go back for sure!

We went to celebrate a birthday and, as always, the ambiance, cuisine, and service were excellent. Nuii, our server, was professional and personable and made our experience at Umai especially nice. We highly recommend Umai to those who enjoy a more home cooked style of Japanese cuisine and will, of course, be returning as well.

One of my favorite Japanese restaurant in Chicago, good food, good service, good price

The food was great! The service was fine. I did feel like we didn't have the waiter or waitress to stop by our table to check on us more often than the other tables. At some point we were out of water and it took a while for the waiter to come by so I could ask him for a refill.
