Friendship Chinese - Chicago

What a lovely marvel a mid century modern, quietly spacious Chinese restaurant with a select menu that fits in a small, two page flyer. The service was super friendly and gracious, all questions answered. We had a small dim sum lunch and each dish was prepared to order, some of the best I've had steamed shrimp dumplings, bbq pork bau, sticky rice with pork wrapped in a leaf and steamed. Even the subtle music beautiful jazz singing made us happy. I so want to come back to this gem next time I'm in CHI.

I love every iteration of Chinese food, I can get my eyes, hands and mouth on: American Chinese Hunan Cantonese Peking Szechuan Street Food Chinese Elegant Chinese I love it all! Going to Friendship Chinese Restaurant last night was my turn at elegant Chinese food. The last time I went this route, by having highly cultivated and polished Chinese cuisine, was November 2021 at Capital Seafood in Beverly Hills. It was this very refined stylish food you eat with silver chop sticks (not wood chop sticks). The same feeling and menu was here at Friendship Chinese. Their menu was very short but sweet; not like a Dim Sim house that has 120 items on it. I really respect a restaurant with only 20 items (not 120 items), because that's telling me they do those 20 dishes very well. We only ordered three things for dinner as we were rushing to get down the street to a movie that was close to starting. Our: Orange Chicken was exploding with flavor and had a terrific crunchy texture The Jasmine Rice wasn't fried, but had this crispy consistency to it that we loved The Honey Glazed Shrimp was just flat out great We ended this rapid but delicious dinner with (their own) Chocolate Fortune Cookies, The people working there were kind, courteous and professional. The ambiance was very zen! It was very busy on this rainy night yet you could here a pin drop it was so quiet One thing caught my attention when we walked in: Thirty-Two silver statues of Buddha all the same all symmetrically lined up. I was duly impressed by everything at Friendship Chinese this night and will most certainly come back.

Really authentic Chinese food. Better than Chinatown. The dim sum was outstanding, service spectacular and overall experience superb. Really glad to have visited. Parking was challenging but the food made up for it.

I came during lunch. I was alone. I was worried, that's not a good sign. My goodness! Food was delicious and on point! High quality ingredients, you can tell. I had the Fire Cracker Chicken Lo Mein. So good. Just the right kind of spicy. The chicken was cooked to perfection, no chewy bits. And the portion was very generous. I spent a lot of time researching a good Chinese Food restaurant around Logan Square and all signs pointed to Friendship. I'm very happy with my choice and I think you'll be too. The ambiance was calm and nice. The check came in a gorgeous music box! Whoever thought of that, deserves a medal! Great experience.

AVOID like the plague if you have any sort of allergy. We ordered the oxtail wonton soup (which the menu described as oxtail and woodear mushroom), pork belly fried rice, chicken egg rolls, and crab Rangoon (for my husband). I have a shellfish allergy. Nothing I ordered for myself was described on the menu in anyway as containing shellfish. Food arrives and I dig into my wonton soup. What do I see through the wonton wrapper? A huge ass shrimp. Annoyed, I called the restaurant to ask whether my fried rice and egg rolls ALSO contained undisclosed shellfish. Well, there's shrimp paste in the fried rice and no one could give me a straight answer as to whether the egg rolls contained shrimp. The girl on the phone was pleasant enough but didn't seem to grasp the severity of advertising a soup as oxtail/mushroom and then it coming as shrimp. She said her manager was going to refund us since I couldn't eat anything, but we haven't seen that yet. So, we spent $75 on food I couldn't eat, and had to reorder from another Chinese place in the neighborhood that treats food allergies appropriately.
