The Getaway - Charleston

This place has a casual Caribbean feeling. Many island inspired drinks, frozen Pina Coladas and daily Sangrias ready to go. There is an outdoor terrace with a full service bar and seating. Also in the back is a stage for live music. The Empanadas are a must and gravestones. Try everything on the menu with a large group, its tapas environment!

This place is dope! The chef really knows what he/she is doing and has designed an awesome menu. My girlfriend and I came in the late afternoon just to phone-in a conference call, have a drink and a quick bite. All we ordered was the Chapa Bread and we were honestly stunned how great it was. Definitely will return if we get the chance. Also, the environment is amazing, great outdoor hangout area.

The space is beautiful, indoors and out. Service was solid and friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed the food, and ordered seconds. Prices are reasonable, just ask your server to make sure the portion is what you expect. I have to recommend the fish soup in particular. There is a good variety of drinks, one for every budget. A good place to hang out.

Ambiance and atmosphere is amazing, as are the little, nostalgic details. a few excellent food items. please get the coconut greens and epanadas. don't get the wine. $15 for like 3.5 ounces. otherwise great drink menu.

As for the food, all we heard were happy "Oohs" and "Ahs" accompanied by the clinking of forks being passed around. I ordered the Vertical Roots Cobb Salad (which was featured at this year’s Bann 'High Water Fest), while my companion opted for the Cuban with mojo sauce (both dishes are pictured—too bad the internet doesn’t have a scratch-and-sniff feature!). I was fortunate enough to try the Getaway Benedict, which included a delicious vinaigrette instead of heavy cream—it was miraculous! The soft-shell crab was perfectly prepared, and the summer squash was light and airy. I also snagged a few bites of the chicken Tinga, which I swear could cure my cat! And let’s not forget the service—it was impeccable. This spot will definitely become a regular addition to my brunch routines.
