Chubby Fish - Charleston

I haven't had a dinner this good in a long time. While visiting from New York to experience Charleston, I heard about this place on YouTube and received high praise from multiple locals. My experience here exceeded all my expectations. Our server, Kate, was fantastic, and sitting at the bar allowed me to see the chef in action. I enjoyed three different types of oysters, which were amazing. Now, let's talk about the bread—it was phenomenal! I would definitely buy some to take back to New York. The Royal Red shrimp was excellent; it was perfectly cooked, and the sauce was delicious. Even if you're not into sweets, you have to try the fried chicken ice cream! (A special mention goes to the decor, cutlery, and even the restroom—it smelled wonderful in there, which I've never said about a restaurant before.) Chubbies is outstanding. I give it a solid 10/10 and highly recommend it!

We visited Chubby Fish for the first time and were pleasantly surprised by how fantastic it was. The cozy atmosphere and the warm hospitality made our experience even better. The food was incredible and is definitely a must-try for seafood lovers. While the portion sizes are a bit small and the prices on the higher side, the flavor and quality made it worthwhile. If you enjoy sampling small, tapas-style dishes to share, this is the perfect place for you.

Our dinner at Chubby Fish was the highlight of all the meals we had during our 18-day tour of southern Georgia and South Carolina! The menu was both intriguing and innovative, and we thoroughly enjoyed the choices we made. I also appreciated the selection of craft beers available. The service was prompt and friendly, and the atmosphere was lively and casual. The only minor drawback was that they don't accept reservations. Even though we arrived early, we had to wait 45 minutes for a seat at the kitchen counter. I think if we had opted for a standard table, we could have waited a bit longer and secured one, but we really enjoyed watching the food being prepared. Plus, the wait was made more bearable by visiting a nearby neighborhood bar. Overall, we were pleased with everything else, so we were happy to give it 5 stars despite the wait!

I can't recommend this place highly enough! It's a fantastic experience, with chef James London bringing his culinary vision to life. My expectations were high, and Chubby Fish truly exceeded them. The dishes we tried included cobia tataki, flounder crudo, octopus salad, chili shrimp, grilled snapper, roasted flounder, mackerel curry, and a unique oatmeal blueberry ice cream sandwich, as well as waffle ice cream with roasted chicken—definitely an unexpected twist! The flavors were fresh and exciting, enhanced by some delightful surprises. I particularly enjoyed the large glasses of rosé, especially the Sancerre. I can't wait to return again and again!

Amazing menu, fantastic atmosphere, and wonderful staff! Everything was exceptional, but the bone marrow and curry were outstanding! I will definitely be coming back frequently!
