Bidrage med feedbackAbsolutely amazing meal from.start to finish. Each dish we tried was better then the next. If you are ever in Aix, you must get to Hue Cocotte! You will not be dissappointed!
After wandering the narrow streets of Aix en Provence one night, I settled on Hue Cocotte and was very happy with my choice! Before seating me at an outside table, my waitress assured me that they had an English menu. She brought the daily French menu (written in chalk on a small board and then proceeded to explain in English the various dishes (getting help from a nearby table of customers for tricky words like lamb . So of course, I tried the lamb. The meat came on the bone, with vegetables and juices all served in a hot cocotte container. Along with bread and wine, the meal was perfect...
Delicious! All fresh ingredients, super fun staff, intimate environment and flavors that didn't disappoint. All the food was delicate and unique with fresh fish and vegetables that were eloquently put together. I would highly recommend a dinner here when I'm Aix.
Incredible food days later and I am still dreaming of the ravioli with mint! Everything we had was delicious, from the lamb falling off the bone to the light and flavorful ravioli. The owner was very helpful in translating the menu for us, and was friendly and surprisingly quick in serving us. We arrived just as they were opening and got an in person reservation for 10 minutes from then. Thank goodness, because the place was packed for the rest of the evening!
This is a small restaurant that is hidden away and frequented by locals. Unlike many tourist traps in Aix, you will not find sub par bistro food. Rather, the chef who has worked in top Paris restaurants has taken a creative and innovative approach. Bernard uses only the freshest ingredients. We especially enjoyed the menu degustation which has a bit of everything. Fish dishes are remarkable and I'd recommend trying whatever is the special of the day. If this restaurant were in SF, NYC or LA you would not be able to walk in as we did today for lunch. Worth the effort to find this place and please do try the cocotte.
